There is an absurdity to CCW permits. Since every state prohibits felons. et al. from concealed carry (not to mention prohibition on even possessing firearms), there is no effect of such bureaucratic permit processes on criminals, who will either carry illegally, or not, regardless of which CCW laws are in place.

However, for those qualified to receive permits, all the CCW laws do is create two classes of otherwise law-abiding citizens. Those who jump through the bureaucratic hoops, and those who don't.

There is no public safety benefit to all the fingerprinting and data collecting, except as makework for bureaucrats in law enforcement.

"Unless it has the support of major law enforcement - meaning prosecutors, sheriffs, the Highway Patrol and the FOP [Fraternal Order of Police] - those who live day in and day out with the ramifications of this legislation, he will not support it."

Given that in ALL the jurisdictions that have liberalized CCW permits crime has been reduced. You would think that the FOP etc... would be pushing hard for the same for Ohio. Since that is the likely "ramification".

I hate these Political Police Officers. Their ONLY concern is the next political appointment and selling their endorsement for a bigger share of the publics $$ and a larger empire. Disgusting!

When were police officers appointed the final arbiters of America's civil rights? Shall issue should be the law of the land!

Taft is daft. He is supposed to lead, not follow. Does he really think the police organizations will pull their support if he signs a CCW law? Has that happened to any of the 30+ governors who did sign CCW legislation? If so, did the withdrawal of that support cause said governor to lose an election? Has crime increased, or the rate of decrease in crime decreased, in any state that has passed CCW legislation?

Politically, CCW should be a no-brainer.

"....anything short of a consensus in the law enforcement community is unlikely to earn the governors signature......"

Since about 90 percent of the rank and file officers in this country support RTKBA, I WONDER JUST HOW LARGE A CONSENSUS HE'S LOOKING FOR.

Geeze!!!

...What part of "...Shall NOT Be Infringed..." is so difficult to understand ???

I think that I'll move to Vermont...as I understand their 'Gun Laws'...As long as you're a bonified American Citizen, and not been arrested/convicted of anything, you can "Carry" whatever you like.....

But, I reckon that makes too much sense.

"There are members of law enforcement who have very grave reservations about the safety of men and women in uniform out there, and I think the result of that would be that the governor would be very careful in his review of those proposals," he said.

That's about right. The bitch state is concerned about the safety of it's already armed puppies, while not giving a damn about the safety of "outsiders".

Make CCW permits legal nationwide!

Simply legislate nationwide reciprocity. It's a pain in the neck when I'm travelling to have to unload, field strip and hide my piece through Maryland, Jersey or New York. Then stop the car at the Pennsylvania line to reassemble, lock and load.

Rediculous.

Virginia has strict requirements for CCW issuance. It make no sense to not make permits allowable nationwide.
