An anthrax scare gripped the nation yesterday as a third employee of a supermarket tabloid was said to be exposed - and the FBI probed frightening reports of an odd e-mail from a departing intern about "a little present" that he left behind.

Questions that I have is, what's the deal with the two clowns that are unaccounted for. And what does N. Carolina have to do with all of this; the fatality, the sick dude and the two missing dudes all have ties to N. Carolina.

I think these people were all in the same building together, but the people in N Carolina were away on business or vacation. I don't think anyone has suggested anyplace else has been infected (although, nothing has yet to pan out from the threat on the Brazilian message board).

Can you either point me to the other thread or tell me why it's been discounted? Thanks.

Bingo.

The people who've been in NC probably were taking part in two of the states bigger industries: tourism and travel up I95/I85.

A top executive at the company said the intern was believed to be from Sudan and was on an exchange program at a local college.

Well isn't that special?

AlaninRaleigh: member since 16 Sep 01 with a serious profile already, for crying out loud! I can tell you're not foolin' around. Welcome to Freeperland!

Don't sweat the duplicate post. Just FYI though, people here really get bent out of shape if you post in the Breaking News and its already been posted, or if its old and you put it on the Front Page. And then they'll just post up a storm letting you know you made a faux pax (LOL).

I haven't read anything that would discount this. According to Drudge the story is still alive. Perhaps someone discounted this story mistaken with the Virginia case. That case was said to not have been anthrax.

Why don't you point us there. I haven't seen anything about this yet. This DOES NOT APPEAR to be the Virginia case.

Are you suggesting that someone at FreeRepublic would flame another poster without reading their thread in its entirety? ;)

The real question is, what story about Hillary was the National Enquirer working on?

They scooped the mainstream media both on Jesse Jackson's love child AND Hillary's brother's USD $200,000 payoff January 22, 2001, the first business day after Bill gave his clients their pardons.

And so it goes . . .

Unless they've confiscated the PC harddrives and there are passwords on them, or resource sharing is password protected, or personal folders on network user drives are personally password protected. I don't know how paranoid reporters are with their source info, but...

However, any of that isn't true, then what you said...

Hey, thanks for the words of support. I used to just visit FR land for news and SoreLoserman stuff to annoy the libs at the office with.

The terrorist attacks motivated me to join in and I've been an addict ever since.

It depends on whether or not there's a network server or if they're just connected via email.

Most of the places I've been have been networked completely -- with everything but "C" drives on a backup tape each night. It doesn't make sense that passwords would be needed -- and it makes one wonder.

The Fla Sec. of Health was just on CNN and he still claims there is still only two cases. I clicked on late into the interview,so I do not know if he was asked about the 3rd possible case from the same building in Fla. Moreover, he still claims that they still have NOT ruled out natural causes. I ask this question... Do they really think we are that stupid??? I would like this gentleman enlighten me on how does Anthrax naturally show up inside a building like the one in Fla. This is really starting to p*ss me off! They claim they want us to go on with our lives and we must learn to live with the threats. OK, I think it is about time they stand up like a true American and tell us the truth! If they are lying to us (and I think they are) they will at some point in time will in deed start a panic if they don't start telling us the truth!

Thing is, people can archive their eMails to anywhere. And if this intern thing is legit, maybe the feds are after the routing properties and SMTP ID of the eMails for Echelon and Carnivore purposes?

Or heres a thought. Maybe the emails have been sent/received encrypted and the "passwords" they're looking for are actually the public and private keys?

This is a good thread. No need to delete it.

This is *NOT* the Virginia case which has turned up anthrax-negative in preliminary tests.

The overnight AP story on a Virginia case appears discounted by preliminary lab results pending out-of-hospital testing of a culture. I'm not even sure of the gender of the person in that case.

This thread is *not* about the Virginia case and is does not appear in any sense discounted at this time.

Head of Health Department on Good Morning America asked about this by Charlie Gibson and he wasn't aware of a third person and he said he was directly in the loop. Of course, he's a government figure so anything is possible, including extreme ignorance.
