They need to put an * next to this record seeing as how he had an extra week of rest/time off this season.

"They need to put an * next to this record seeing as how he had an extra week of rest/time off this season. "Oh, Bonds' record is cheapened by MLB taking a week off after the attacks of 9/11?
You amaze me. Think before you post.

Aww, c'mon.. I don't like Bonds personally, either but the record is his and I'll applaud him for it. By the way, didn't St. Louis play an extra game in 1998? Where's McGwire's asterisk?

******** like Maris had? Bonds could be at 85 right now. But took days off throughout he year. I think as time goes on the number will get to 80 by someone. More than likely Sosa will explode near it.Bonds is enjoying this record for the time being. But don't let anyone kid you...hitting a home run let alone 73 of them is amazing.

Unbelievably ignorant comment. Bonds hit 73 HRs during a pennant race when no one would pitch to him. McGwire, as great as he was, only was intentionally walked once in his last 46 games because the Cards were out of the race early, while Bonds got intentionally walked constantly. You need not like the guy to respect what he's done.

They need to put an * next to this record seeing as how he had an extra week of rest/time off this season. Pre 9/11/01, Bonds was averaging one homerun for every 6.7 plate appearances.
Post 9/11/01 has him hitting one every 5.

having a week off towards the end of the season definitely would NOT have given an advantage to Barry. that's a whole week where you're not seeing major league pitching, and a lot of guys came back sorely lacking in timing. but Barry's not your average player obviously. if there is a "*" next to it, he should get MORE credit for being able to SHATTER the record under strange circumstances. and even though the Giants didn't make it, most of his homeruns in the last few weeks have been BIG ones that put his team ahead/back into games.

I don't recall McGwire getting an asterisk next to his 70 even though the Cardinals played 163 games instead of 162.
