Yes, the code is historically universal; yes, the exceptions and the rules obviously ('known') had to have come from predecessors; but, no, it doesn't logically follow that the reason they all have it because of descent with modification (speaking on a molecular level here) from a single original ancestor. The "reason" for believing that it did is that, as Julian Huxley said, "...the only alternative is special creation and that is clearly unthinkable." Or, to paraphrase Pascal, "The heart has its reason of which reason knows nothing."

there are enough holes in the THEORY of evolution that even Charles Darwin, they guy who thought it up, stated that it was a stupid idea and anyone who espouses it is as stupid. (paraphrased becuase he comments about the complexity of the human eye and other stuff, plus I don't remember the exact wording).
