Being raised in the 50s when nuclear war was a primary concern, and Sputnik was 44 years ago yesterday [ICBMs] and having read On the Shore, and many other novels dealing with the aftermath, I would be beyond worrying. if we get a general nuclear war, it's going to be bad beyond understanding. There may be survivors, but it's going to be a long, long time until earth is a pleasant place again. The danger is great right now, which pleases the OBLs, no doubt.

I was worried till I thought about it.

The US is big. We can, if confronted with Gottdammerung, absorb fifty 50 Kiloton devices and still function long enough to expend our 6,000 warheads.

If OBL fondly fantasizes about crawling out of the rubble of World War III to infect the survivors with his filthy little cult, he is wrong.

No, let me tell you what will really happen:

A holocaust against Islam by the enraged survivors that will make Stalin and Hitler look like girl scouts.

Sorry, but it is just human nature.

It is NOT fair to judge the Southern Baptists by the actions of the KKK, so it follows that If good, peaceful Muslims wish to make the distinction between their actual faith, and OBL's filthy cult, they had better start ACTING to distance themselves from it, and SHOUTING their condemnation of his cult, so that WE CAN HEAR IT AND HEAR IT OFTEN!

I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

Re: being raised in the fifties... Aah, the fifties -- those good old days of "drop drills" in class and the last-Friday-of-the-month civil defense sirens going off (testing). And let's not forget Kruschev's "We will bury you!" speech made while pounding his shoe on a table. Oh yeah, it was a blast! And my sixth grade teacher did her best to really scare the hell out of us. During the Cuban Missile Crisis of == when was that, 1961? -- people all around were stockpiling food for the upcoming expected war. Maybe that's why I'm more angry than scared these days -- and folks older than I are even less scared -- they've been through WWII, after all, and the Great Depression. We'll get through this just the way we've gotten through everything else --

OK, but what if Osama only gets one bomb off. What if it's not a "general nuclear war"? Should everyone who survives the blast just kiss their butts good-bye?

In the cold war days it made sense. No one was going to survive 6000 nukes. But one nuke?

Yes, we need to learn to protect ourselves from a few days of bad radiation -- then drive to the next county 10 days later and go on with life.
