Vigils? Demonstrations? The trouble is...there is no evidence in the history of mankind where being a doormat to an agressor has worked. That's because all the doormats were killed.
What you said was pretty good. How about this: "Are you a doormat or a doorkeeper?!" (Like, "Are you a mouse or man?")
Doormat - "A mat...for people to wipe their shoes on... A person who is habitually abused or humiliated by another."
Doorkeeper - "A person who guards the entrance of a building."
Metaphorically, can we say the building is America's freedom?
