[history]
October 5, 2001 -- I am a Roman Catholic who was appalled by the insensitivity of the remarks made by Edward Cardinal Egan ("Examine your soul, America, Egan says," Oct. 2). No sane person wants war, but the actions we are about to undertake are a necessity. This is about the survival of America.

I can not read the Cardinals mind, but perhaps he was speaking of the time we bombed the aspirin factory??

The comments from the Cardinal in the NewsMax article seem to be exactly what a priest should be saying. It seems to me that anyone who disagrees with it has no business in a church.
To put "patriotism" (nationalism) ahead of the quest for spiritual unfoldment is not the job of a priest.

BTW, Cardinal Egan IS ruffling his feathers here in front of the world synod. If he made any mistakes it was in passing political judgement on US foreign policy. He should stick to Catholicism or indict at least a dozen other countries on attrocities. He would have served himself better in speaking to the Catholic politicains about the condition of their soul. Straighten them out first.

Should clarify...it shouldn't just be the Cardinal, but the local priests as well.

Arent we a funny lot, we complain when the priest doesnt talk about topics and gives us watered down homilies, yet when something happens and the priest does say something we want him to shut up. Egan should have taken his cue from the Pope, who has consoled America and cautioned against rash action.
Instead, Egan waits til he's out of the country and starts slapping us around.
This guy is no Cardinal O'Connor, to be sure.

This guy is no Cardinal O'Connor, to be sure. Cardinal O'Connor was a US Navy veteran. This man is playing to the left.
As for you 'priests can do no wrong' fools, try looking up the history of the odious Berrigan brothers, two drunkard anti-American priests who are still laughing at the 'good Catholic' FBI agents who addressed them as "Father".
Or how about Tip O'Neill's aunt, a Maryknoller, who 'advised' little Timmie on Nicaragua? Such people are frauds, using their clerical collars, nun's habits and the 'obedient' sheep who treat them with inappropriate respect to push a political agenda.

The Maryknolls are the worst. Commies maquerading as a religious order.

Cardinal Egan is a rock-solid Catholic Churchman, if anything a bit more conservative than Cardinal O'Connor. I got to know him pretty well while he was Bishop of Bridgeport. This is nothing but an underhanded effort by the media to split and divide conservatives--something they do all the time, and there always seem to be people eager to swallow their poisoned bait.
Are you saying that the Cardinal should have said that Americans are totally without sin? That's about all his remark amounted to, that no one is entirely without sin.
But it's pretty obvious that it was a trick question. McCain and his left-wing admirers in the press tried very hard to do the same thing to Bush last year, when he spoke at Bob Jones University. "Divide and conquer" is the old name for it. It's typical slimy behavior on the part of our lying media.

Are you saying that the Cardinal should have said that Americans are totally without sin? No thought required here, just an old-but-true cliche:
There's a time and place for everything.
The Hate America crowd marched in grieving Washington. The time for criticism of America by (of all people) New York's Cardinal is not now.
As for the media trying to 'split' conservatives this is the New York Post. Conservative to the core. Do you think they solicited those letters?

What exactly were his comments? What a snot you are!!!
Oh, I am so hurt!
Did you request a link? No.
Did you say please? No.
Couldn't you get the gist of what the Cardinal said from reading the letters? No.
You wanted me to drop what ever else I might be doing and tell you 'exactly' what he said. My response to your arrogant demand was appropriate.

Of course, I expect every time I ask a question that everyone should drop everything they're doing and answer it. I guess I need to change my name to Queenfrom the desert. :)

AmChurch, the dominant faction of the Catholic Church in America is the shame of traditional conservative Catholics.
AmChurch is dominated by gay-lesbian radical activists that have sheltered child molesters now on trial in every major American city from L.A. to Boston.
New York's Cardinal Egan is at the head of perhaps the most divided region of the Catholic Church in the U.S.

Egan was screaming for justice against the terrorists from the moment it happened. His comments are being blown way out of proportion. Even President Bush said we need to re-examine our "culture". The President is wrong too.

Always post articles, not just links, presented for discussion. Things have gotten pretty sloppy of late at FR.

Directed to you. The headline should be followed by the text to which it refers. By concensus and simple logic that's how it's done here.

We can only hope that Cardinal Egan, while in Rome, can get Silvio Berlisconi to explain to him what is going on here.
