It should be Bibi Netanayu, a real American partner. But thanks to Clintoon/Carville, Israel took some steps backwards.

Sharon's words may be "unacceptable" but THEY WORKED.

Powell warns Arafat: U.S. may change policy if steps aren't taken...

"Americans officials said Friday that Secretary of State Colin Powell warned Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat in a phone conversation Thursday that if he does not take action to fulfill his obligations, Washington would not continue its current policy in regard to the Palestinians, Israel Radio reported. The call came after Powell discussed with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres recent incidents of Palestinian violence in the territories"

Public posturing aside, the message was heard, thank God!

NO OFFICIAL EXPLANATIONS FOR TU-154 PLANE CRASH ABOVE BLACK SEA DISCOVERED, SO FAR

SOCHI, OCTOBER 5, 2001. /FROM RIA NOVOSTI'S OLGA SEMENOVA/ -- No official explanations of what caused the catastrophe of the Russian Tu-154M airliner above the Black sea have so far been produced. This was said by chief of the Russian commission of inquiry Vladimir Rushailo, secretary of the Russian Security Council, at the first press conference since the start of work of the state commission.

"Every, even the most impossible, version is being considered," he said. But he refused to cite even working hypotheses. For example, only experts in ballistics can pass a decision on what produced holes discovered in recovered fragments of the door of the pilot cabin, said Rushailo.

The radius of fall of the plane's fragments is 10 kilometers, he continued. The ten vessels, one aircraft, two helicopters and 120 rescuers doing work on the site of crash are trying to find "the maximum of what can be found on the surface", Rushailo stressed.
If you know how Russia has been handling the US (just think about the Kursk ) then you know that the word "officially" means that Russia now knows.
The US is announcing troops moving to Uzbekistan (1,000 troops from the U.S. 10th Mountain Division were on their way to Uzbekistan).
if Uzebkistan's president betrayed Russia then keep in mind keep playing Russia can't accept this.

Sorry Ari, but Sharon is right on the money. If we are going to screw our real friends to pacify our questionable fair weather friends, it will be to our everlasting sorrow.

Shron said that he will not allow Israel to be sold down the riner in the name of appeasment, as Czechoslovakia was at the beginning of World War II.

If I were Israel, I would feel the same way. From the point of history, however, Czechoslovakia fell on its own accord. First, it, too tried to appease the Germans, and gave up the Sudetenland. Regardless of the legitimacy of the Germans claim to the land, the Sudetenland was the natural line of defense for the Czechs. By giving it up, they yielded the high ground to the Germans.

Afterword, the Germans invaded, and the Czech were still not fully prepared, despite the large number of Skoda tanks they had, which were superior to the Mark I, and Mark II tanks that the Germans were fielding at the time.

The lesson of course to Israel is to be prepared to go it alone(which they are), and never, ever, to yield the high ground, which is what Syria of course has been asking them to do.

My opinion (OTOH) is that this is not the time for Israel to get into a p*ssing match with the US. Just a matter of perspective, I guess.

what does it mean to not 'accept' a statement? does it mean... he's going to assassinate sharon? cut off all aid? have the u.s. ambassador stop by sharon's office tosay 'that's not nice to say we're trying to f*** you over?' it's fine what fleischer says some BS statement, that's what PR guys do, but why are the press people napping? if fleischer says something like that, make him elaborate!

I think both groups need an ultimatum...Either the fighting ends now, or both are TOAST! Neither seems to be able to honor their word in peace agreements, and both constitute a threat to peace. I do not like our country standing behind Israel regardless of what they do.
