Such risks, gun control advocates say, outweigh any benefits - which they consider small - of carrying a weapon as a defence against terrorists.

I was trained as a journalist. The first thing to know about journalism is that journalists don't give a rat's damn about "objectivity." They purport to seek and report "the truth," and consider themselves the arbiters thereof. That said, always note what is often called the "stinger," or last expression of "truth," usually the last sentence, in any story - it's the flavor and phrasing of that which betrays the author's bias. Exhibit A, the above.

Here's what I posted on this other gun-related thread:

I think some jaws are gonna drop when the real retail figures come in and the most profitable sectors are means of self-defense and protection like guns and gas masks. The NY stores can't keep 'em in stock right now.

Time for America to do away with ALL laws that violate the 2nd amendment.

Text of the Second Amendment
"A well regulated Militia
being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Anyone who actually reads AND understands the 2nd Amendment
will see that there is no constitutional authority for any type of gun registration
and *there is no need for anyone to have to apply for a license to carry a gun.
*NOTE Vermont is the only state that understands this!
Any political party, politician, judge (etc), organization or individual who trys to convince you that:
1) you must register a firearm
2) you must pass a background check
3) you must wait (x) amount of days before you can get your firearm
4) you need to have a license to carry a gun
is either uneducated about OUR rights as citizens
OR is actively working to undermine OUR country.
How Did the Founders Understand the Second Amendment?

How the Brady Bill Passed (and subsequently - "Instant Check")
When the Brady Bill was passed into law on November 24, 1993,
the Senate voted on the Conference Report
and passed the Brady Bill by UNANIMOUS CONSENT.

NOT ONE SENATOR FROM EITHER PARTY VOTED AGAINST THIS.

Actually, now might be a good time to try and get the Assault Weapons cosmetic prohibition lifted.

As Grey Davis ponders gun registration in Kalifornistan...

Violations of our 2nd Article of the Bill of Rights are rampant in the hearts and minds of socialist politicians.

The police powers of the State will protect you as well as the World Trade Center.

Though the gun control debate is likely to stay in the background for the months to come, problems surrounding gun ownership, of course, will continue. In Virginia recently, a three-year-old boy shot and killed himself while playing with a gun his father bought for protection against terrorists.

Such risks, gun control advocates say, outweigh any benefits - which they consider small - of carrying a weapon as a defence against terrorists.

Such risks outweigh any benefits? ANY?!

The intensity of the insanity is mind-boggling.

1 child > 1000s of casualties

"For the children" > "For liberty"

This guy needs to talk to Spock.

Americans brush aside gun fears in desire to bear arms

Just a small correction to the title of the article. Americans don't have "gun fears."
To quote that ol' liberal baiter and conservative himself:

"There are two kinds of people in this country --- Americans and liberals."

a spending spree that promises to complicate the already complex debate on gun control.

There is nothing complex about gun control. It's quit simple really, the commie authoritarian crowd believes only bad guys, military and police should have guns and that middle class citizens should be disarmed. They know that their new world utopia could only be implemented by forcing it upon an unwilling population - check the Soviet Union for further details.

"People can buy guns at these shows from certain dealers without undergoing background checks. A terrorist could purchase all sorts of weaponry from these shows," says Mr Riley

Uh, Mr. Riley, to buy any firearm covered by the 1968 Gun Control Act from a dealer without a background check is against the law. If what you say is true, then these dealers should be brought up on charges. On the other hand, perhaps you are just making it all up because you feel your cause is so rightous that lying is justified. In that case I guess we've finally established just what kind of person you are and just how rightous your cause is.

I was lurking at a gun control forum a few months ago. There was one surrender monkey(as in surrender your freedom)who was constantly in favor of gun control. One of the posters asked if he would be willing to put a sign in his front yard stating his reluctance to own a firearm in defense of his family and property. The surrender monkey dissapeared from the forum threads and has not returned.

IMO the lesson is, when put into a real application, gun control fails.

Did we ever have "gun fears?" Or were they invented by the media?

How many people in total were just killed because of box knife wielding terrorists in which just one passenger with a concealed carry permit could have shot dead? Any fool who "fears" owning a gun deserves to die on his knees begging for his stupid, worthless life.

'Gun Control', in any of its forms, is an attempt to restrict a right enumerated by the Bill of Rights.

And that's an act of treason.

Those who have advocated, or authored, 'gun control' measures of any sort are traitors who should be indicted on treason charges and bound over for trial.

And those who are convicted should be swiftly put to death.

Those of you who believe that 'gun control activists' are merely a misguided but loyal opposition with whom we have a 'disagreement' over 'policy' are deceived and defeated before you ever leave the gate.

These people are damnable traitors, plain and simple, whose goal is to destroy our Constitution and our way of life.

But they can't do it without your acquiescence.

At first glance, rushing out and buying a gun for fear of terrorists might seem rash; however, when one stops to consider that we are at war with a foe who's shown himself to be adept at infiltration...

"Gun Fears"....ahaha. Who thought that one up? The only gun fear I've ever had was the fear that I would have to fight my own government to keep my guns.

Gun fears, my big ol' hairy butt. The three weenies who wrote that piece probably pee the bed every night.

"People can buy guns at these shows from certain dealers without undergoing background checks. A terrorist could purchase all sorts of weaponry from these shows,"

Here we go again. Ok, freepers, here's a challenge: Go to a gun show, and just see if you can buy a gun without a background check. This quote, unsurprisingly, is one that the anti-gunners tout as loud and as often as possible. I go to probably 3-4 gun shows a year. I have yet to see anyone who has a private collection for sale, and who therefore wouldn't have to do a background check. This provision in gun show rules allow for a person to sell their own private collection at a gun show, without having the burden of doing background checks. What's funny is, they know this is the case. It goes to show just how desperate these people are. They are so desperate that they resort to half-truths, and misrepresentations of the truth to advance their agenda. And if these anti-gunners think that gun shows are some endless source of weapons for terrorists, it just goes to show how stupid they really are. But they aren't stupid. They know what they are saying isn't true, so that makes them what everyone here has known for some time: They are liars.

One result of the terrorism crisis has been a rush by Americans to the nation's gun stores in a spending spree that promises to complicate the already complex debate on gun control.

A more significant result is that a higher percentage of Americans will be capable of taking care of business if it becomes necessary. About time.
