Oh man I wanted one of those and there was another one called Odessey that had a keyboard.
Do you rememeber when a VCR cost $400+ ? And that was for mediocore one. And when the first laser disc for TV came out? They were the size of record albums.

Of course! I remember how quickly the controllers used to disintegrate, too. Not as bad as those of the Atari 5200, IIRC. There was a 1-800 telephone number for the regional Atari parts distributer. It essentially led callers to a voice recording that said "We do NOT have Atari 5200 hand controllers in stock at this time..." :-)

Don't forget the ColecoVision, bought to you by the Cabbage Patch Doll people.

Later, Coleco offered the Coleco ADAM computer, truly a horrendous piece of garbage. I took one look at it and bought the Commodore 64. People still play with the ADAM, though. Swiped from an enthusiast website:

"The Coleco Adam was designed by Coleco to be an expansion on the COLECOVISION game system. It was designed in the early eighties (1981-1983) and manufactured for only 2 years. It uses a Z80 CPU with 64k of RAM, comes with 32k ROM with a built in wordprocessor, 3 internal slots, a cartridge slot, a bus expansion, and the "AdamNET" high speed LAN for connecting the keyboard, daisy wheel printer, and disk drives. Nowadays, most Adam users use a 320k 5 1/4 inch disk drive, an external 2400 baud modem, and a 20, 30 or 40 megabyte IDE harddisk."

That text ignores the ADAM's worst features: Tape drives (the disk drives came much later) and the computer power supply located in the *printer*.

Hey, what about the TI-99-4A? I feel like a rousing game of "Hunt the Wumpus"! ;^D
