iIt appears that there are lots of mind games going on and my mind can't figure them out. I guess that's the way it ought to be."

Then again this is what GW told us would happen in his speech to the Congress. He stated that this war would be conducted in secret, unlike the broadcast of our every move during the Clinton years. Dis-information is a component of running a secret campaign. So, it does not surprise me that we are going to see a lot of information in the press that doesn't pan out.

I don't know who Sergey Snegov is, but he don't know jack, and he sure as heck doesn't know George W Bush.

Calm down, for heaven's sake! Getting a post pulled is really not that big a deal. If you're so touchy about FR's policies, go start your own website.

Yeah, I don't know what the heck you said in your post, but it is rather childish that so much is being pulled by the Nazis lately. Frustrating to see so many posts addressed to someone, and NO post represented. Even lurking isn't any fun anymore.

Well, I guess the terrorists are winning if our "allies" won't support elimination of them. If we can't do it using their territories, then I guess we'll have to do it from long distance--very long distance.

I would suspect that Bin Laden has made direct and perhaps personal threats against the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Oman. I would be surprised if he didn't do this, because if he waited to try and pre influence the situation before action began, he would lose his chance. But Rumsfeld will find a way of either promising or paying for these skittish states renewed cooperation. Bin Laden has money, but not enough to best the US in a payola pay out match. Let's hope that the reports we hear about the crumbling of the Taliban are accurate, which would leave Bin Laden high and dry... a bug to be found and squashed. As long as they get him and destroy his organization, why should it matter if it takes a few more weeks, and what level of destruction of the lack of it is the result. Death to Bin Laden!

"you are correct.... the over/under (before/after) date for placing wagers should be set on Oct 15th.

Bingo. Been saying this for days. I got out my "phases of the moon calendar, the day after bush promised military actions...

This is stalling for essential troop buildup, prior to attacks. Afghanistan will not have a government by the time we strike in a "military" fashion. Russia, special ops and the Northern Alliance will be done with most of the heavy lifting by the fifteenth. Although there may be some bombing in the meanwhile.

EVEYRY BODY knows that afghans are not the primary source of our woes... THIS ACTION had multistate backing. This is a multinational coalition of arabic/muslim states against the USA... THEY want and are prepared for a war against us. THEY started this war, because they think they have something to "take us out with" or they would not have started it.

Iraq is not the only target either... no big surprise. If we don't think there is a MAJOR "secret agreement" between these middle eastern nations, we all inhaled WAY too much. CHINA cannot be trusted. North Korea and Indonesia are probably involved too.

My bible thumping friends think this is all only about Israel. I understand why... but that is NOT the truth. This is about tyrannical "idealogically" driven nations, who have been increasingly stymied in their attempts to carry out their "tyrranical" activities, by USA POLICY. Our policy has never been perfect, but our heart has been in the right place.

Muslims states are NOT our friends. But, the attempt to build "coalition" may have bought us some much needed time.

These are dangerous times indeed.

Why in the world, ANYBODY would think we needed ANY muslim nation to BACK us in this is beyond me. If the UK and her "family" of offspring nations, INCLUDING the US... plus Russia, India and Israel cannot get the job done, along with a few Nato partners... WHO and WHAT do we really think we are up against?

Muslim states need to be assured, if they turn against us, or continue to act against our interests... medina and mecca are going bye bye... along with their capital cities in EVERY one of them. I am willing to bet we know how to run the oil systems WE put in place, with or without them.

Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Egypt, Sudan, Saudis, Pakistan, China, North Korea, Indonesia and crew... a long list, and two of them with nukes... not a pretty sight.

Let them have their state... away from Israel.

I agree. I suspect that within 6 months there will be a lot of land opening up in the Tigris River valley. Ideal spot for a new Palestinian state...

Perhaps the Saudis, at this point should be told that "either your signature or your brains will be on this contract." Rumsfeld should have taken Janet Reno with him as the enforcer. Just her gorgon like appearance would have made their gelabas brown1

Every time the attack is "coming in 24 hours", both the Taliban and the various terrorist cells are probably also getting ready to take action. Each dry run must be giving us loads and loads of information.

Bush did say he was going to "smoke them out". These on again off again signals are probably part of the smoke.

Yours is an excellent point. Once again, we may be looking at more creative writing from the British press. Of late, we've almost always launched air attacks at or near the new moon. Since the Taliban do possess an air defense system, albeit a rudimentary one, we're likely to continue that pattern. Don't look for any attacks for at least a week.

A coalition was a great idea! Now we get to let other countries tell us how and when we get to seek retribution for the the deaths of our citizens.

It's not about retribution. It's about preventing more attacks. Big difference.

No... Sadam is still breathing... Our leaders have let us down ....

Uh huh. Well, you can take that up with George H.W. Bush. His son, our current President, hasn't made any moves yet. Apparantly, most so-called conservatives on this forum don't want to give him the chance to act.

This article is at best uninformed speculation. Notice this line;

Oman, also skittish, is regarded as an important support base for a ground incursion. US special operations forces can be flown there and then put on amphibious invasion ships.

Amphibious Invasion Ships? Afghanistan is 500 miles from the nearest body of water. What invasion ships? The writer has no idea what he is talking about.
