My kids think I'm kidding when I tell them girls could not where pants to school until I was in first grade. Born in 1962. I remember my mom asking again and again if it was ok when I wanted to wear pants (no blue jeans allowed) to school, it was such a big deal. And those elephant pants!! in the sixth grade, I thought I was Marcia Brady--Stylin'!

I grew up in So Cal (1952) and us girls prayed for rain (which seldom happened) cuz that meant a "Yellow Flag Day." If the school hung out a yellow flag -- it meant the girls could wear pants that day. Sheesh!!!

I'm 5 years older than you and we couldn't wear pants to school till 7th grade and that was after circulating a petition. We also couldn't wear jeans and I definitely remember having some elephant pants. Thought it was cool, though my father always feared I was going to trip over them and fall.

This is a fun thread- I could actually respond to many more posts than I have time to.
