Another one I was ready to mention! My parents went all over town to find me a black one and they finally did. I was so glad because I just had to have that doll. Because I could only have black dolls I never played "Barbies" until her black friend, Francie, came out around 67-68.

How about a Julia doll? Remember her - she was (I think) the first black woman to star on a tv show - Julia Carroll.... I thought she had to be the most beautiful woman on earth..... I got a Julia doll for christmas that year.... same size as Barbie, but she was a nurse!
