Actually, botulism toxin is one of the most toxic substances known to man. If several pounds of pure toxin was dropped in the reservoir right near the water supply intakes, the concentration could be more than adequate. The thing I don't know is if botulism toxin (the toxin, not the bacteria) could survive the normal clorination done with city water supplies.

Well, how many ppm concentration are we talking to make it deadly? Over here in MA, we have a huge resevoir (half a trillion gallons or so.) Somehow, I think a small package of the stuff dumped into it wouldn't do jack...

Boy, I'm getting tired of repeating myself.

IF THE PACKET WAS DROPPED RIGHT OVER THE INTAKES, IT WOULD GET SUCKED IN AND NOT DILUTE IN THE ENTIRE RESERVOIR.

Did everyone get it that time? I sure hope so. [*sigh*]

Another very simple technique would be to package the toxin in microencapsulated form, so the granules would be sucked into the intakes and lodge in the filters, then disolve all at about the same time and release the toxin into a relatively small volume of water in the city water supply. Microencapsulation is a standard packaging for many vitamins and medicines worldwide, and certianly well-organized terrorists that had the wherewithall to manufacture botulism toxin could get it packaged in this way.

Again, the fatal dose is only one-onehundredbillionth of a gram. That amount in a glass of tapwater will kill you. Imagine what a few dozen pounds of toxin would do in a city water supply.

Am I getting through to you guys now ???
