Low Flying Plane Creates Concern Over Tulsa's Water Supply

A low flying plane created a concern in Tulsa after witnesses say it dropped something into Tulsa's water supply. The small plane flew over Lake Yahola near Mohawk Park around 3:45 Monday afternoon.

A plane has been detained at Jones Riverside Airport and the FBI is investigating. The instructor and student in the plane that was stopped say they were nowhere near the area.

As a precautionary measure, officials switched Tulsa's water supply to a flow line that runs from Lake Spavinaw. Samples have been taken from the reservoir and sent to a lab for testing to determine if any contaminants may have been introduced into the supply.

One of the tools of the terrorists seems to be massive diversion. It didn't get a lot of newsplay on the media or even on FR, but at the time of the 9/11 hijackings, the FAA was swamped with a sudden burst of bomb threats. When we see a lot of planes dropping bags of sugar into reservoirs, that is the time to start looking at what is happening right on the ground.

Mulder, I wasn't really concerned with the little plane in Tulsa, but shouldn't we (the people) and they (the authorities) be watching out for our everyday resources? I live under a water tower and you bet your ass I wonder who has access to it or to it's tributaries and treatment plant, water source. I drink purified water and have for years but I still have to bathe in the ookie water coming from God knows where.

Botulism Toxin, on its own, is not a very effective weapon. The toxin molecule needs the bacteria in order to replicate. Just dumping the toxin into the water supply would cause it to become highly diluted and not very deadly. You can make your own botulism with mayonnaise. Much cheaper and more more effective than Botox.

Considering how much chlorine gets put into municipal water supplies, I'd sooner worry about chlorine poisoning than E. Coli from the water supply.

At times like this I'm glad I was fooled by y2k and bought a British Berkfield water filter and half a dozen jugs of chlorox, and left it all right there in the corner gathering dust.

By the way, doxycycline 200 mg every day is adequate prophylaxis against anthrax and most other common biologicals. Its cheap, safe, and it can be taken chronically without many side effects. (If doxy doesn't stop it as a prophylactic, cipro will, but cipro is not safe for kids.) I'm stocking up on Doxy.

High concentrations of E-Coli are found in fecal materials. If there were enough fecal material introduced to the water supply (and the conditions were favorable), the E-Coli would survive. Many agencies test water for E-Coli already.
