We have to be careful about thinking of the President as a man with a calling and God's annointed in a crusade. We do not want to imbue the Presidency with the imprimature of a "religious test" or the power to call for a jihad.
What I find most edifying about President Bush is his example in dealing with other people. He never says ill of his political opponents, he always extends a hand in real friendship offered. I used to think this represented the core of the man, but now I believe it is the whole of the man, a man who has truly given his life to Christ and tried to be a true friend of man and his fellow human brothers and sisters.
Last September I was surprised to come to the conclusion that Bush was a better person than I was. Now I am trying to start to follow his example, to keep hate at bay, to do one's duty like a fireman would, in order to save lives, but not with a spirit of revenge or hate in our hearts.
And this goes also toward our civil discourse, as our President has been trying mightily to correct by his example. I am taking this all personally now, and because of the example of President Bush, I have come to believe that the place to start must be to shift my focus away from self and politics and toward Christ. To figure out how to put Christ central in my life, not an after thought.
Any advice would be appreciated as I don't have any talent for this task I have assigned myself, as you can tell by the way I worded the first part of this sentence.

Even the democrats are being influenced by this attribute of President Bush. You are correct in feeling that his example is calling all of us, individually, to be the best we can.

I know what you mean about our president. I find that I look to his example more and more in my daily life in my dealing with others - the humility, the generosity of spirit toward others, the courage of conviction. God bless the man.
