The lines at the gates stretched for a dozen blocks, it took 3 or 4 hours for on duty personnel to creep in. Officers in uniforms with the proper stickers, haircuts, and ID all got the minute engine, chassis, and trunk inspection.

But were arms and live ammunition issued to all the personnel? Was the entire perimeter fortified manned and ready? Were all the unguard entrances guarded? I do not really want to see answers to these questions in an open forum just an honest appraisal forwarded to officers who can make a difference.

Of course not, they just got ultra anal at the gates.

The point being, that an act of terrorism 3,000 miles away totally paralyzed the military out west.

And let's not forget another immediate military effect of 9-11: it has forced us to hold back @25% of our navy and air forces for homeland defense, forces not available to go to defend Taiwan, etc.
