SirGawain's original tribute to this drawing:
I love this drawingI'm sure more than a few of these requesters saw this cartoon on FReeRepublic.com first. When Steve Breen moved to San Diego from New Jersey, I had to write the webmaster to make sure they displayed his cartoons on the web. I'm glad they did!
I know you've all seen it before but here it is again. Click the eagle to go to the Union Tribune's Steve Breen cartoon index.

And here's his latest:

SirGawain, I believe you started this whole thing!

That eagle, superimposed on the American Flag, hangs in my office. Several of my colleagues have mad copies and put it up as well. BTW, I work for a very large corporation who has NOT prohibited the display of patriotic symbols in any way.

Hey, what happened to the e-mail address field where we could post pithy comments?

Hey you...have you seen this cartoon?
To: Incorrigible
I am one of those that asked him for permission to use this image. I still have heard nothing.

What the heck is going on here?
In the land of fruit and nuts (Kalifornia), both the Left (Los) Angeles Times
AND The San Diego Union-Tribune have hired SANE editorial cartoonists!
(Michael Rivera and Breen, respectively)

Correction: Michael Ramirez. Good artist, and it's always fun to read the squeals of anguish and outrage from the lefties who write the Times to complain about his latest work.

Bill Osborne, senior editor for opinion, said the Union-Tribune is carefully
screening all requests. Breen, Osborne and Editor Karin Winner are adamant that it
not appear that the Union-Tribune is profiting from the disaster by allowing indiscriminate use of the cartoon.
Dear Breen, Osburne, and "Winner",
If y'all read this, let me say that the only "obscene" profit I've ever
heard of is the money speculators may have made on the Sept. 11, 2001 attack.
ANYTHING you do with this magnificent cartoon of the eagle can't be wrong if you just
assign profits from it to a relief fund for victims/survivors of the Pentagon event...
it seems to have gotten short-shrift compared to the WTC Towers event (but
perhaps understandably due to the number of victims involved).
You could construct the fund to benefit Pentagon attack victims AND the American "eagles"
who will be working in/around Afghanistan to bring Osama to heel.

Thanks for the ping. This is such a good cartoon drawing.

Correction: Michael Ramirez.
You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.
I'll chalk up my error to a couple of weeks of sleep deprivation getting my
boss ready for a trip out of town.
And some serious sinus medicine to treat some nasty fall allergies.
Don't know if you (RichInOC) or others saw Ramirez's cartoon of the twin towers of the
World Trade Center tilted over and supported in a smoky haze by what looks like the mortally
wounded Battleship Arizona.
Maybe not the cartoon that made me tear up the most...but did tie
into the historical American need to overcome this current episode very well.

ANYTHING you do with this magnificent cartoon of the eagle can't be wrong if you just assign profits from it to a relief fund for victims/survivors of the Pentagon event... On a related note, I'd like to see stores selling flags require buyers to pay a donation to the relief fund (maybe $10-$20 or so) in addition to the cost of the flag. Then they'd not be seen as greedy (as they would if they just upped the price) but they might have inventory for more than 20 minutes.

How did you superimpose on the American flag?

Is this the eagle you are talking about?

Stir, Mix, Blend or Frappe. So many choices...

No problem. It happens to us all sometimes.
Yes, I did see the Manhattan-as-the-Arizona cartoon. Striking image, and it's one of my favorites from the recent coverage. It ran September 14 and it's still in the Ramirez archives in the latimes.com editorial section if anybody's interested. Mike Shelton at the Orange County Register's done several good ones lately as well.

I can't remember where I found it first. Maybe from another thread.
