Bin Laden Family Could Profit From a Jump In Defense Spending Due to Ties to U.S. Bank

If the U.S. boosts defense spending in its quest to stop Osama bin Laden's alleged terrorist activities, there may be one unexpected beneficiary: Mr. bin Laden's family.

Among its far-flung business interests, the well-heeled Saudi Arabian clan -- which says it is estranged from Osama -- is an investor in a fund established by Carlyle Group, a well-connected Washington merchant bank specializing in buyouts of defense and aerospace companies.

SLJP - I honestly do not have the time to thoroughly read through all the long posts, so maybe I did misunderstand. I have a FT job that keeps my busy, and peek at FR when time allows. I just read a couple of verbose posts that seemed catty. Anyone who "knows" me here on FR, knows my answers are short and sweet (or not so sweet). You need to take a break from your computer and get some perspective. I've given myself this same advice in the past. You are reading WAY too far into things, IMHO. Relax, sit back, take a break. Peace.

Don't be silly ... you worry way too much about this "membership" business.

You think I'm a Member in Good Standing? Hardly. Yet I've always been treated most graciously any time I've ever popped into a Guild thread.

FWIW, I started hanging around here in '97, joined in '98 to make a couple of replies and didn't speak again until 3/99 once we started bombing Serbia. The year's lag time before posting anything gave me a chance to get a feel for the place and educate myself.

You're a spirited sort and that's certainly appreciated around here. Don't be so hard on yourself. As I said, most of my best laughs have come at my own expense around here.

(Which reminds me ... I have a reply to make to Pardek. See you.)

You have FReepmail that will show you I'm not reading anything into anything, I assure you! *G* As I just wrote, I appreciate the sentiment behind your suggestion of leaving the internet, but I don't think that's necessary. The internet is my lifeline, and my sole connection to the outside world. I've been on the internet since its inception, and take a break only when I am extremely ill from either the Chiari or an infection, etc. I love the 'net, and have never, ever had a problem with it. I would have a problem with abandoning it. I already read books in between posting spurts. I also write, articles and music, online, and that is so essential to me, I can't even explain it to anybody. It is my release, and I adore it.

At any rate, I know a need a break from the LG (resignation has been tendered), but I think I'll be just fine on the rest of FR. I kid, I tease, but I do not hurt people. I would never hurt anyone. Not on purpose, anyway -- and if I were to discover that I hurt someone unintentionally, I would apologize profusely. It's happened before. I'm fine. Really. Just as long as I steer clear of the LG. ;-}

Have a most excellent day, and I hope to bump into you elsewhere on FR!!

The "membership" thing was tongue-in-cheek. Mainly, I was saying that I will not be back on those threads. I am not one to show up where I am not wanted. And, sure, I have no problem "letting myself go" on this thread -- or any thread -- but I used to think that I could do so at the LG thread and not get jumped on. Bashing was supposedly not tolerated. (Except by FReepmail, as I've discovered.) I took comfort in that. There are times when I want to be somewhere I know I won't have to start defending myself for something or another. But if I were to return there now, I would not feel comfortable. Even less comfortable than being here. So -- that's what I meant! *G*

Doesn't loyalty and belief in one's peers just make your heart swell, and cause you to choke up with emotion??? (See referenced post!) It's sooooo bloody touching. Nobody read the post I asked them to read. (Not until I pointed it out, anyway!) And everybody was all geared up to believe the absolute worst of me. I got called all kinds of lovely things, including a liar!! Wow. I guess my initial glowing report about the guild was a pack of lies! So I retracted it, since I was told that I do not speak for the guild, and then I got slammed for that too!! Aaaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhhh!!

I have never seen anything so in-your-face MEAN in my entire life! The so-called "leaders" of the guild are not very nice people. If you ask me, they're hypocrites. Oh! And HLL -- I am not saying this behind your back. I have said nothing behind your back. It's on a public thread that you are well aware of! PLUS! I pinged you! Again!

How many times have I brought up my dogs, HLL? A lot. And no one would reply. Now I hear your entire day's worth of posts is about dogs! I do not understand you people at all. Oh yeah, and your rescue dog? I guess even you can do something worthy every now and then. I am very heavily involved in dog rescue. Mostly Basset Hounds, but any dog in need. Our Wilson is a rescue. I financially support GABR in Illinois. And we occasionally foster Bassets until they find a "forever home." I have mentioned that before, and was ignored. By everybody. You guys aren't nasty on the thread, but you sure are nasty on FReepmail, and you tend to ignore the "unwanted" to death! Ladies Guild? How about Hypocrites Guild?? (If the foo shits, wear it!)

Sorry for the off-topic, everybody. I am angry, and I thought everyone should know about how the Hypocrites Guild operates. I thought they wanted to do good. No -- they want to be known for doing good, while they treat fellow FReepers like crap. Very nice. God is keeping score, ladies!!

Disclaimer: Not ALL of the guild members are nasty hypocrites, but a bulk of the old-timers are! Beware!! Don't tread on them!! Talk about "first blood!" Today, I dared to compliment them, and drew back a nub from their Fearless Leader!! "Danger, Will Robinson!"

Feel better?

Sheesh. I'm sorry, but that was the biggest waste of my time to wait for this thread to load (even with DSL) to read that rant. I really don't like this kind of negativity and trashing of people I've known here on FR for several years. You've been here for less than 10 days and have managed to work yourself into a tizzy over something of your own creation. I've never seen anything like it....

No I do not feel better. That's a load of bullock! MY own doing? That is RICH! I wrote a glowing desciption of the stupid guild, then pinged Guild members to make sure it was accurate. I did that out of consideration. (Something they have never given me!) And what do I get for my trouble? Slapped in the face! Very nice!! "My own making," my a**!! HeLL was the one responsible for the nastiness. I have never read such horrible, off-base, nasty, self-righteous, ignorant TRIPE in my life!!

Whoopdeedoo on how long anybody has been here. Mean is mean, and HeLL was mean as a snake!! Remind me never to do anyone here any more favors. Or to be too considerate. It never pays. (Sheeeeeeeesh!!)

I already have a bunch of books! LOL! Libertarians, huh?? What, no thread?? *G* I am actually a very nice person, but I have been so upset about today's events that my blood pressure has to be through the roof by now! My face is blood red; I can feel it!! I'm fuming. I think I'm justified. Strike that -- I know I'm justified!

You guys wouldn't smack me around for being considerate, would you? I mean, it's not a tradition, is it?? I don't think I much care for it. ;-p

Thanks for the invite. Sincere or not! *G* At least, you didn't knife me in the gut while I was bending over backwards to be accommodating!! ;-}

"Considering responses of late, I'd be afraid to monopolize your time thus!"

Upon reflection, I've decided that you're right about that. Keeping track of your flames in this climate would probably be a full time job.

But I'll be happy to lend a hand when I can! ;^)

Great job posting this WSJ article!! Timely, all over again...the author was on C-Span Washington Journal this morning.

The calls he got were hilarious. (The looney left must consider this Carlyle-Osama-Bush Connection to be their version of Clinton's Black Baby....I mean, they know it's not true, but it's just soooo much fun to stoke it.

One woman claimed this war was all about oil... that George Jr. started it because he wants a personal pipeline from JerkeyTurkeystan to a open ocean port, and needs Afganistan to get there.

Thank goodness another caller promptly reminded the goober that this war was about 6,000 dead Americans..not oil...not big business...and not about The Carlyle Group. But some of the callers, anxious to attack President Bush, must think going through George Senior is the way to do it.

The reporter who wrote this was challenged by callers. When they asked if he was implying that the Bush family was somehow connected subversively to Osama bin Laden, he denied it, and in fact said, he found no evidence of wrong doing on the part of Bush, Sr., Bush, Jr., or any other American businessman or past government official connected to them. He said he just thought it was an interesting story. HAHAHH...he said he didn't know why this story was getting such attention this long after it was first printed...the man was disingenuous to the max!

The looney left is after Jim Baker as much as they are the Bush family. They hold him responsible for their loss in Florida last November. They hate him.

This author is doing a down and dirty rehash of the bs put out by other looney lefties in the media. Slate called Jim Baker, "The Bush Family Janitor"
http://slate.msn.com/Assessment/00-11-17/Assessment.asp

Another Bush - Baker hit piece is here:
This is Nina Burleigh for TomPaine.com.
http://www.tompaine.com/news/2001/10/11/
Remember Nina? She wanted Bill Clinton to rub his big, strong hands up her naked legs on Air Force One.

And perhaps the best Bash Bush-bin Laden Connection hit piece comes here:

_____________________________________________

The WSJ reporter,Daniel Golden, (based in Boston, not DC), Daniel Golden, "Wall Street Journal", looked sort of shell-shocked at some of the calls....I took notes as he responded...Here's a sample:

Bin Laden Group was worried about their family name.....they want to be identified as legitimate business, totally unrelated to Osama, that's why they disowned him. They are very close to the Saudi royal family, and more than anything, they must avoid allegations of corruption, certainly, terrorism. ...that's one reason they seek out partnerships with government leaders in other countries.

The Bin Laden Group is and always has been, very very supportive of the United States. I believe he said they paid to have the Kobar Towers rebuilt...for certain, he said the bin Laden family had personally paid for American military interests in the kingdom.

The author said he uncovered "No evidence to suggest a conspiracy" between American officials and the family. He affirmed the family completey disowned Osama. He said the bin Laden investment in Carlyle Group was pretty small.

He said President Carter met with 10 bin Laden brothers in Jetta, looking for contributions, that President Carter and Rosalyn met with bin ladens in NY eventually got a200,000 dontation to the Carter Center.

Author says: Clearly brothers who head the family are not in contact with Osama, have disowned him.

James Baker,, Carlucchi denied comment on bin Laden family..they are embarrassed by their connection to the family. The author, obviously tried to make this reluctance to discuss their Saudi business connections seem sinister, but when questioned directly, he admitted it was natural.

The author finally said flat out, the Carlyle Group did not want to answer his questions, but top executive talked to him on a background, and were pretty forthcoming.

The author said: "About 20 years ago, one of the older bin Laden brothers, Salime spent a lot of time in Texas. His American partner Jim Bath, invested in a couple of bonds GW was connected to, but we found no evidence of any connection to bin Laden money. Bath was investing his own money."

Golden says he is not implying guilt by association.

hahahah.....caller points out the Clinton bin Laden connection during Bosnian war, how Clinton built him airports, provided secret arms, etc.

Golden says Carter solicited gift from Bin Laden grouop....both parties link up to big money like Bin laden. Author explained the bin Laden business is reseller of telecommunications, food beverages, all sorts of American based companies.

Golden reminds viewers what good friends bin Laden family business has been to American interests....that they've been strong allies to America when we've been in need...including building new barracks.... to repudiate a brother in Saudi is pretty tough..they did it for us.

Caller accuses Golden of making an implication against the Carlyle Group. The author said Jim Baker visited bin Laden family in 1999. (I guess this was supposed to be criminal activity...at least this is something the looney left is excited about. They aren't going to let go this bone...it's all they got to bash Bush with.) Caller says war in Afganistan is about 6,000 victims, accuses author of insinuating it's about oil. Golden denies he is implying this is about oil He denies it. He says, Bin Laden family doesn't want publicity, trapped between two worlds. they have to pass muster with fundamentalists... they have jobs building mosques, and taking care of holy sites, etc, they might lose contracts at home. On the other hand they have children who were born in the US, go to school here, , they have business contracts and contacts here, and they need to stay on good terms with both sides.

Golden really back tracks.....caller asked if all that explanatory information was in story, and Golden says some of it he didn't know at the time, some of it there wasn't room for, might have gotten edited out.

Golden denies his story is nefarious....

"guilt by association" is intent of the article....author denies that. says he's just trying "to add to the conversation."

Perhaps Golden's lamest moment came when he was wondering aloud whether or not all of Osama's family ties had been broken by the family when they disowned him. He reminded viewers that Osama had called his mother right before Sept 11....as if him calling his mother might have impact on the family business. (Yeah right...a female family member has real input in a Saudi business.)

Mercuria correctly points out ridiculous statements (absolutely outrageous/hilarious/stipud) by Howlin:

"Then I think maybe all of us should apologize to the TRIMPOTUS."
We were led astray by the evil Klayman, who lied about him for so long just for the money.
I'll let you compose the corporate letter begging Slick for absolution for our sin of doubting his integrity."

***
Let me quickly join Mercuria in pointing out how our dear Howlin - has now...lost a wheel off her cart/rofl/bttt

(of course, Howlin will complain that I should have stopped addressing her,
but with with these absolutely absurd posts of Howlins, that's not going to happen!)
