I tried various work-arounds to no avail. Negative margins are not valid, and absolute positioning affects not only the left position but the top as well, causing a real good mess.
Give 'em a couple days, I think they'll grow on you. The indents look even better with the new forum software, I'm hoping for a public preview sometime next month.

Well, thanks for trying. I'll get used to it.

On a serious note, I think a lot of the effects are good in certain peoples hands. Like mine. I use many effects to humorous purpose. PROGRAMMING CHALLENGE #28934: Make many effect (such as CSS and so on) available to certain trusted users.
Unless you're not up to the challenge, of course. :o)
Okay, okay, that was mean and manipulative. But, I might as well be myself. :o)

Polite question: Would it be considered bad form (bannable) to attempt to push these changes to see if/where they have weaknesses? I like doing that sort of thing, but not enough to get banned over :-)

Are you sure? At the moment I'm limited to a Unix version of Netscape Communicator 4.76, but this work-around for zero-indentation of the left margin (for those opposed to that) works for me:
<style>
blockquote.spoofkill { margin-left: -40; }
</style>
<blockquote class="spoofkill">This is a blockquote.</blockquote>
... that is if that was what you were looking for. Making classes would provide for more customization options anyway.
