Another interesting tidbit...
Last night I was watching a piece on TV about the shooting of JFK. I was explaining it to my 9 year old son, and in the discourse I mentioned JFK was the only Catholic president in our nation's history.
He looked at me wide eyed. "The ONLY one dad? Why? Aren't there as many Catholics as any other church?
A good question, one for which I did not have a good answer, or at least one that would satisfy a 9 year old Catholic's mind (without opening up a whole can of worms about institutionalized discrimination.)
If you are serious about finding an answer to your question, first find out how many Catholic Congressmen, Senators, Governors there are, and even more, how many run for office to begin with.
I don't know the answer to these questions, but the obvious fact is, you can't win the presidency if you don't get elected to something else first (unless you're Dwight Eisenhower), and you can't win anything if you don't run.
As far as I know, we only had one other Catholic candidate run for president. Hard to elect them if they aren't on the ticket.
