Treason n. 1. The violation of allegiance towards one's country or sovereign esp. the betrayal of one's own country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies. If you're going to accuse someone of something that serious, get your crimes straight or support it with facts..

One simple approach is to ask her why the economic expansion under Reagan was a "Decade of Greed" while the one under Clinton was a "Booming Economy". If she claims that the disparity between rich and poor was greater under Reagan (and she will) be ready to prove that's a lie.
And if she tries to talk about deficits, you can ask for her suggestions on how the Soviet Union could have been defeated for free...

Along those lines, I've been searching for some statistics on the 80's which I saw a few years ago. Basically, it indicated that the percent increase in salary(wealth?) for the lower income brackets was higher than for the upper brackets. That doesn't mean that the absolute gap didn't grow, but that the lower incomes were rising at a higher rate. I don't have a source for this either, but I remember seeing a chart of new small business starts in the 80's broken down demographically. There was a small increase for those started by white males, but it was by far the lowest -- with female and black owned companies inceasing the fastest. Stats like that show the increase in opportunity for all...

I'm sure you'd feel differently, if in a few years, we're selling weapons to the Taliban - because it'd be no different than what Reagan and his cronies did.
Conservatism (or liberalism, for that matter) doesn't have to equal blind allegiance.

I would also suggest you do some research on the Spanish philosopher Jose Ortega y Gassett, I just finished Revolt of the Masses. Good stuff!!

I was Navy ROTC at the time so my first job was pretty much assured. Come to think of it, he didn't like us military types much to begin with. I was probably screwed either way but I still think that it was worth it.

I guess that would be a matter of opinion, wouldn't it? And opinion doesn't equal fact. But to give you a chance to prove you aren't a hypocrite, point me to a couple of threads where you mention the same type or treason that Clinton committed. Nah, just one will be fine. By the way, what was done under Reagon was illegal, just not treason. I'm not the one with the blind loyalties.

He said that he has had it out with her several times which points to a closed mind and a desire to antagonize her students by my way of thinking. I think that it's duck and cover time, although it may be too late for that. He may as well have at her because she probably has her 'D' pencil sharpened for him no matter how well he does on the classwork.

Is the prof a young teaching assistant, just out of grad school herself? That's who often gets stuck with freshman English classes. If so, probably doesn't have much real-world experience to balance her views.

Given your previous definition of the word, selling weapons to a country that held Americans hostage is NOT "treason"????

Don't forget to point out the fact that the Reagan Administration, including Reagan himself, committed treason re: the Iran/Contra affair
Many on this forum have deified former president Reagan.
Any talk of the Iran/Contra affair or any wrong doing by the administration is dismissed as propaganda created by the media, Democrats, and space aliens..

I'm not going to argue over what the meaning of "is" is:
1. I didn't say you liked Clinton, I gave you a chance to prove you weren't a hypocrite.
2. At the time of Iran/Contra, Communism (Big "C")was the enemy we were actively fighting. What was done under Reagon was not an effort to consciously or purposefully aid an enemy in defeating the US.
3. This isn't helping gopnol. If you have anything else to say, go to Private Reply.

I can assure you that your teacher is probably right and you are probably wrong if you are repeating the words of those who have tried to repaint the 80's with rose colors...The proctologist called...
They found your HEAD.

Research the pre-Reagan economy. Loans were difficult to get during Jimmy Carter's "GREAT MALAISE" (as so named by the peanut farmer himself) and were short time adjustables. People w/ good credit would by a house on 1 year ARM because it was all they could get, then lose the house when it came time to get a new loan because they couldn't borrow money. High unemployment, federal extensions of unemployment benefits and surplus government cheese giveaways continued until Reagan had been in office about 2 years. After Reagan's repairs to the Democratic Party's damage had corrected the economy and people found employment again, then a great lifting of spirits occured throuhout the Nation and the people who worked for a living became happy. Happiness is what the miserable leftists hate the most, therefore they bash the '80's, the best decade in the last century.

Courage and an F in English Comp will do more damage to your GPA than silence and an A.
Nein. This is a prime opportunity for one to choose principle over one's personal gain. Besides, in my experience, many professors (even leftists) admire students brave enough to speak up and challenge the professor ... much the way teenagers really respect their parents even as they think they are @ssholes for not letting them go to a party. My recommendation would be to do what your heart tells you is right and let the chips fall where they may.
Well said and I agree with you! I certainly learned much more from my failures than from my successes and that only because of the struggle itself. My point was meant to more along the lines of "if you don't, who will" and "if not now, when?" - other people in the class need to see that someone else is thinking the same thing.
I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.
-Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)
