Along with other commenters... I'll just say 'Who the hell is Jesse Jackson to the Taliban anyway?"
Since when does some sleazy so-called Christian preacher gain an audience with a bunch of terrorists in the middle-east? Well, of course those are Jackson's kind of people... thugs, extortionists... Jesse's tactics involve threats of protests, etc. The Taliban works by killing thousands of innocents... whatever works, right Jesse?
Logan Act violation. . . .
U.S. Code, Title 18
Sec. 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

Hahahahaha. Hope you're kidding here.
He went to the middle east to negotiate with terrorist, and was taken hostage and held for the next four years.
If Jackson wanted to sabotage the Presidents efforts, he couldn't find a better way. If he is taken hostage (and he probably will be) it would undermine support for military action amoung those who worship the ground Jackson walks on.
What do you think the Taliban will chop off?
That didn't stop Hanoi Jane! By the way, she should go along too. This time maybe the CIA can give her a very special camera to record the event. :)
"Um, Jane, don't turn the camera on until you are in the same room with rest of them. It's very important."

Ah, so this is the law that Jimmy Carter should have been prosecuted under when he went to North Korea to negotiate foreign policy on behalf of the United States with no official clearance. Actually, his "negotiations" consisted of outlandish promises that not even Clinton could agree to. Now that's going some!! During Klinton's tenure, he gave away everything but the kitchen sink.
"Wait Akmed!"
"We can't eat no pork, he a racist pig"
So yes, there is a law. He would have to get permission. I can just see this moron chaining himself to a tent or a camel to stop the U.S. from bombing Afghanistan. Like I said last night when this first came up on Hardball, if Jackson had so much of a hair on his head injured we would have race riots in the street here. Every idiot follower of his would be blaming President Bush. They cannot allow him to go.
Farrakhan is a hate-filled minister, for sure. However, I watched his statement after the act of war and he flatly condemned those involved.
I don't have to agree with someone's religious views, but I will respect them as people if they espouse correct sentiments, which Ali and Farrakhan have done.
As to where I fit, well, let's just say that I've got the blood.
