I was hopeing that some part of the facade would be saved as a memorial to the victims. Some of the images of it were extremely powerful.

Gotta manage public opinion, 'ya know. Colin Powell doesn't want the natives becoming too restless and demanding payback for all the culprits in the Middle East.

the site is copywrited and rudy and bill get a cut.

Before it was all just I-beams and concrete; now it's fingers. It's been fingers from the beginning. The very first blast blew an extraordinary number human bits onto the surrounding rooftops and fire escapes. I know a photographer on the ground there. He waited a week for permission to shoot for a day.

This is very disturbing. The cry went up "Remember the Alamo". The more graphic the pictures, the more the cry "Remember the World Trade Center" will mean. It's almost as if the process to make us forget has already begun.

I have a different take on this. Now that a large amount of rubble has been cleared away, perhaps GAWKERS are feared flocking to the site as if it were a local tourist attraction. Traffic is horrendous, and they really don't need ridiculous tourists, NOR DO THEY NEED trash magazines sporting front page body parts to our enemies to cheer over.

I disagree with your argument that we are being coaxed into dis-remembering 9-11. I DO think that GW is walking a tight rope and trying to lead us to follow. The government is obviously doing everything it can to:
a)return the U.S. to relative normalcy.
b)keep the markets from crashing.
c)prosecute a new type of warfare, despite our military's lack of prep for this re-invention of the wheel.
c)maintain a semblance of civil liberties and protect Americans of M.E. extraction from angry lynch mobs.
Yes, there is "control" over the flow of info right now, and while I have reservations about that, I can see why it is necessary during a national emergency.

I was down there last night at around 2am so there weren't too many spectators around. I saw the signs posted every 10 feel or so. I wasn't surprised by them. They don't want tourists coming by and treating this like an attraction right next to families who are grieving. And that was happening. People would sit there for a long time and take pics of their kids in front of the buildings. "Hey Bubba jr., move to the left so I can see more rubble!" These actions trivialize the event and demoralize the already depressed workers whose hope of finding anyone living is gone and who are tearing down a building they grew up looking at as a symbol of freedom.
Believe me, there are plenty of press down there documenting everything as well as police photographers.

This notion that nanny government has the rights of an individual is really disturbing.
Every piece of the oportunists puzzle shows up right on time -- and is dropped in place.
And notwithstanding that the head general [AKA "Commander in Chief"] has arrogantly illegally, unlawfully and unconstitutionally sent a huge military force off to war without so much as a request to the only arm of our goverment permitted to either raise and army -- or to wage war -- let alone in accordance with its declaration [IE its permission!] -- or that his transportation secretary has arbitrarily issued the largest bunch of the stupidest regulations we have seen in decades of he issue of large bunches of stupid regulations -- last Tuesdays greatest threats to Our Fraternal Republic's underpinninnings haven't even shown up yet -- but are certain to bring down way more than a couple of buildings!
And to threaten hundreds of millions of lives -- rather than just a few thousand.

"Bridges and tunnels into Manhattan were choked with traffic for much of Tuesday while police searched vehicles and inspected drivers' licenses, causing some delays of more than two hours. This is an outrage. Having to show papers to travel is un-American. And unnessesary....." Are you aware that there are over 300 people being sought in connection with these attacks, are you also aware that people who have no business being near ground zero, try to go down there every day to collect "souveniers". Hey look, there comes a time when you have to have the attitude of "I have nothing to hide, go ahead and look." Trust me these guys searching cars have neither the time nor the impluse to plant somekind of evidence. It seems like you are part of the anti racial-profiling crowd, when this might actually help with the investigation.

Just because you and I have seen this type of thing is no reason to get as graphic as you did.

I wonder if they're not down to the grisliest part of the task, digging out the huge numbers of bodies that must still be trapped in the debris. That may be the reason for the "no cameras" regulation.
I don't know that legally the mayor can suppress photography at the site, whether it's a crime scene or not. As I recall, numerous photographs of murder victims, burglaries, etc. have appeared in the newspapers over the years. A photograph in no way disturbs the evidence. There's more going on here than meets the eye.

Brian, You are looking deeper than the Office of Homeland Security or the United Nations will permit!
Stop fighting for The U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights! Get in line, stand at attention and keep your mouth SHUT! Stop being a Patriot for a lost cause. Be prepared to accept your National Identification Card and turn over your personal firearms. You will wear your new flag shoulder patch proudly on all clothing. If you attempt to broadcast "A Dozen Good Reasons to Get US Out! of the United Nations" one more time you will be sent to an internment camp for the five year course of re-education.
Is this clear?

14 SIGNPOSTS TO SLAVERY 1. Restrictions on taking money out of the country and on the establishment or retention of a foreign bank account by an American citizen.
2. Abolition of private ownership of hand guns.
3. Detention of individuals without judicial process.
4. Requirements that private financial transactions be keyed to social security numbers or other government identification so that government records of these transactions can be fed into a computer.
5. Use of compulsory education laws to forbid attendance at presently existing private schools.
6. Compulsory non-military service.
7. Compulsory psychological treatment for non-government workers or public school children.
8. An official declaration that anti-communist (Patriot) organizations are subversive and subsequent legal action taken to suppress them.
9. Laws limiting the number of people allowed to meet in a private home.
10. Any significant change in passport regulations to make passports more difficult to obtain.
11. Wage and price controls, especially in a non-wartime situation.
12. Any kind of compulsory registration with the government of where individuals work.
13. Any attempt to restrict freedom of movement within the United States.
14. Any attempt to make a new major law by executive decree (that is, actually put into effect, not merely authorized as by existing executive orders.)

One of the above posters indicated that the police, FD, and recovery workers were being incensed by tourist types making a mockery of the scene. I suspect they appealed to the mayor to take this action. As far as the legality of the action I can't say for sure but I doubt that it is a legal action. Who is going to argue with Rudy about it?

A simple anecdote: My pop and I watched a car-motorcycle accident that terribly wounded the rider. We rushed over and administered first aid to stop the bleeding and treated the fella for shock while someone called for an ambulance. Within seconds, there was a crowd of gawkers standing around saying: "OOOOh, look at that." "Is that a leg?" "Ooooooh, yucky."
The worst was finally when some dumbass lady's dog started licking up the guys blood out of the gutter. We went ballistic at that kicking and shoving the idiots away from there, and swearing at them to get lost.
I see this action in the same light....
