It's probably some kind of strategy to make the enemy think we'll do one thing and then really do something else. Or it's to show them we really do mean business and we will take that Russian base.

A lot of "it" is in this article - maneuver, fires, logistics, command, mobiliy and countermobility, air defense and intelligence. I wonder who is leaking this information. But the plan presented seems reasonable in any event...

Probably because they aren't true. Misinformation seems to be the name of the game. Let the Taliban mass their forces in the wrong place. If they don't know where or when to expect us, so much the better.
BTW - All Your Base Are Belong To Us!

A map! A map! My kingdom for a map!
Does anyone have a link to a map of Afghanistan
showing the Bagram air base?

OR. It might be all true and the Taliban lacks the power to do a damn thing about it.

Wherever the first operation takes place, logistics will be a factor. Even for the small sized elements of Special Forces, support will be required at some point...

"
Why are these things being reported?"
Yes, I am shocked! shocked!
It never would have occured to the Taliban
that the US would want an airbase
if they hadn't learned it here.

The news on TV said the Northern Alliance already took that base, but still had to secure it- probably meaning that the mountains still needed to be cleaned.

WTF. Why are these things being reported? For the same reasons that the activities of the First United States Army Group commanded by General George Patton were reported?
