When I first posted this, it was a seemingly passing announcement by Rita Cosby on Fox News, running on their half hour news break.
I too haven't found anything yet....the reason I thought it serious, was, she was quoting FBI sources.
All your base are BELONG TO US!
THAT"S IT! Have Pork on every plane! They would not commit suicide with with pig flesh! It would condemn their souls!!
DAMN< YOU'RE GOOD.
I'm serious. They wouldn't board a plane with anything pig on it.
"Looks like 'airline pilot' will be the new career choice for thousands of young Arab Muslim men if it isn't already. And we can't discriminate against them in the US if they go the lawful route right? Even John Ashcroft will sue the airlines on their behalf! And pilots are gonna have guns now right?
"Guess what people, the new terrorists who have nothing to live for will be 'pilots for Allah' flying the 'friendly' skies until they get their terror assignment."
No matter how unpalatable it is to a lot of folks, no matter how "unthinkable" it might be, there's an ugly fact that everyone is going to have to face up to sooner or later -- and quite likely sooner than later.
If, as it appears to be shaping up, a large fifth column of terrorist sleeper agents is activated, and scenarios like the one you detailed above begin to happen, there is going to be a reaction from the US gov't, and it it is almost certainly going to be one that will make the hairs on the backs of the necks of a lot of civil libertarians stand straight up.
I'll be blunt. If the choice is one between the disintegration of the United States of America on one hand, and the wholesale "internment" of the group that the fifth column uses for cover, the outcome will be certain. The gov't will not stand by and allow the destruction of the country.
The fact that mothballed detention centers exist is something that the government makes no secret about. While they don't advertise the fact, they do acknowledge it.
Those sites weren't built for no reason. Like Mount Weather, they were built for "the unthinkable", and if the unthinkable happens, they'll be used.
But wait, I hear a voice shouting out that, "it would be illegal, it would be unconstitutional," to which I reply that in times of war, such considerations are generally swept aside without a second thought. There are EOs on the books now that authorize those actions, and other actions even more unpalatable to larger groups of Americans.
I've asked in several threads for some of the "no way will I tolerate that posters to come up with a viable alternative. To date, I've received nothing but more strident talk of resistance. Well, resistance will do nothing more than galvanize the gov't and "the people" to act with even more haste.
I will admit that I'm pretty much at a loss as to some other way to prevent the fifth column from taking the country apart. And, I interpret the other posters' decisions to evade my question as a statement that they can't think of any alternatives either.
I'll throw one "possible" into the ring -- off the top of my head -- and let others pick it apart. Even before I post it, I can think of more than one serious flaw, but as I said, no one seems to be able to come up with a viable alternative to "the camps" in the event that the nation's continued existence is at stake.
OK, here's a potential alternative: the FBI conducts extensive background checking on each member of the Arab/Muslim community. Those that pass muster are given ID papers. Those that fail are placed in a prison, or an internment camp, or are deported, or in some cases, executed.
OK, your move, folks.
As RedBloodedAmerican mentioned above, the story may not be true. Another possibility is that the government has asked the media to keep this one quiet for fear of revealing sources or a direction in the investigation. FOX may have run with the initial tip before the government knew that it had been leaked. A third possibility is that lawyers have jumped into the controversy on all sides because this news could lead to more lawsuits for higher awards.
The point is that we do not know all that happened and yet we are being asked to accept greater impositions on our comfort and convenience. As the stories in this thread show, these impositions are useless from a security standpoint. Our hope is to build momentum for repealing stupid, useless measures that do not advance security.
The thread just begs for those insightful observations on Thread 1.
I just worked at the polls last Tuesday with a lady who runs the "lost baggage" delivery service at our local airport. She said all the security efforts are "upstairs" and they should be concentrating "downstairs." She said their employees pick up lost baggage from all the airlines (have access to all) and then bring it all back to the central office where it's dispatched to people's homes. All these employees (who go from airline to airline) are Arabs, except for three who are Somalis. All the Arabs are related, -fathers, sons, uncles, cousins, etc. I asked her if those employees could smuggle stuff INTO the airport and then TO the various airlines, and she said "yes." Scary!
I concur....still waiting to hear any periphal info. waste of bandwidth, not to mention interrupting my love life if false. .30
--- & would defensively trample on someone else's right to free speech,
& fail to recognize the boundary between license & liberty,
or alternatively, the difference between loss of basic liberty versus
simple inconvenience in the name of prudence.
It is absolute nonsense if not errant insanity, to advocate NO CHECKPOINTS for airplanes:
It is now a requirement of or a demand & expectation the MARKETPLACE, that passengers have an assurance that all prudent security precaustions be taken prior to thier being willing to fly on a public airline.)
Have a nice day.
& Bless your heart.
