I solved the whole issue of whom to ally myself with when I became a Constitutionalist. Either folks are with me or against me, and I'm with the Constitution. If patriotism declares that we must drop bombs on women and children in Afghanistan while the true perps in this crime hide out in the desert, I'm naturally going to be questioning things. Granted, this has not happened yet....but those you've allied yourself with have been calling for just that. Or have you not been reading FR lately? I would have nothing to do with a crowd like that, personally.
All the best,
Callahan
To: CWOJackson
What do you mean that I am not willing to give up any personal sacrifices for the cause of freedom? I gave my own blood, money, (and that is really difficult since I go to a very, very, expensive private university), and have family that have either served or are serving in the military. Silencing the free-flow of debate, thought, and opinions, even in the time of a national tragedy such as this one, is just another victory handed over to the terrorists by us. There is a difference between broadcasting military secrets on broadband and just merely expressing one's own political opinions.
To: TKEman
you'll see I'm not a blind Bush supporter.....
Wait until you post your first criticism of a "war measure" Bush signs or (worse) how Bush is conducting the war. You will be banned within the day as a traitor.
To: CWOJackson
If the speech, whether in writing or by the spoken word, does not threaten the national security of the United States, it should not be censored.
To: diotima
Thanks Dio. Unfortunately many freepers, even longtime ones that should know better, will discard your words in the name of "pulling together". You are also correct that if it was Klinton making these speeches and implementing these Orwellian "Homeland defense" agencies, this forum would be hopping with outrage.
FR has become an encampment for sheep and I'm amazed at seeing some of the people that I'd previously respected falling for this sham. This is surreal.

To: Rebeckie
My error. I mistook you for one of the posters complaining about the loss of some civil liberties.
To: Inspector Harry Callahan
FR has become an encampment for sheep I don't think so. Many still call them as they see them. To do anything else would not be any fun at all. You should try to gain a bit more respect for the intellectual honesty of those with whom you disagree. If nothing else, it adds a bit of civility to the public square.

I think that I am becoming immune to sarcasm by now.

Rockwell doesn't speak for all libertarians, and neither does Harry Browne.I have been ashamed of both in these past weeks.I'm very proud of you OWK. Thanks for saying this and for being ashamed. You're a TRUE patriot. :-)

Of course I support a war effort, that is, if it actually happens and if it is done as ethically as possible. If we go to war, the main thing that I am concerned about is that we minimalize civilian casualities, which I trust, our military leaders will be trying to do anyway. There are alot of people over there that are prisoners of their own government, especially the women that are just totally oppressed and treated as if they were merely cattle or a commodity.
To: diotima
The measures currently being undertaken are designed to prevent further fascist incidents. You say you'd like to see major terrorist ass kicked. I do too. We all do.
You should realize that once that starts to happen, the terrorist asses will start to fart. You may not like the smell of their farts. I know I didn't when they farted in Washington and New York. Because I leave my windows up in my apartment, I smelled said fart here in the Washington area for some days. I didn't like it. Not at all. In order to prevent further farts, the American people must be prepared to make some compromises. Southern Federalist said it best.
We simply must win the war.

There are some folks who HAVE to believe that any deviation from THEIR One True Way is paid for by nefarious, satanic forces, or because the deviate is a "sheeple."
Otherwise, they'd have to admit that they've done a lousy job marketing their ideas.

You seem to ignore reality. The reality is THIS IS WAR. I've got a news flash for you too - Clinton isn't President, so what he would or wouldn't do and what we would or wouldn't do in response means absolutely nothing. Boy, that's so nice to type. I'm going to repeat it a little differently this time...CLINTON IS HISTORY.
To: Southern Federalist
They used our freedom, and turned it into a weapon against us.
Short of stopping all International flights into the US, we will never be 100% sure that the events of 9/11 will not repeat themselves.
Short of never allowing anyone else into our country, we will never be sure that terrorists do not walk our streets.
Short of deporting every foreign-born person in the US, we will never be 100% certain that sleeper agents do not live amongst us.
When we do all that, there will be the memory of Tim McVeigh.
As you watch our armed forces being deployed, remember one thing, they are not the front lines, we here at home are.
My parents bought round trip plane tickets to Las Vegas yesterday, they are going to see their grandkids, my Dad's neighbor told him that he is nuts, and that no one could get him to board an airplane right now.
I'm going to follow my father's lead, and fight this war, I'm booking a flight tomorrow.
I'm not letting them use my freedom, to take my freedom from me.
To: Luis Gonzalez
Right on! I think it's stupid to have ever thought we were 'safe' before anyway. The world is brutal and some of the people in it are animals, but that don't mean the world's off-limits; if anything, it means 'get up off your ass and make the world around you a better place'. America is the 'Home of the Brave' not the 'refuge of sissies', that's France.

George Patton......
The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his...
Simple, blunt and basically the way it is, imo.

"FR has become an encampment for sheep and I'm amazed at seeing some of the people that I'd previously respected falling for this sham. This is surreal."
You want surreal, consider the potential of introducting a biological vector into the nation's wheat belt. Mad cow, hoof and mouth. A checmial agent into a major water supply. How about Small Pox introducted into the air filtration system of a major airport...how quickly would that spread across the nation.
And you are crying that the threat of the government tapping into your e-mail is more serious then the potential harm such attacks would cause our nation? Don't you think it's about time your turned loose of your prejudicies against the government and woke up to the reality of the war.
To: Darheel
The way to win this "war" is by not doing a damned thing different today than we did yesterday here at home, and to pound anyone even remotely associated with the responsible parties into dust with our military.
They chose to murder our civilians by the thousands, wholesale slaughter then it is.
Look to the past, to Japan and Germany.
We destroyed their armies, killed their leaders, and fire bombed their cities.
Freedom is neither easy to maintain, nor without cost.
