Well, the flipside of the coin are the laid-off tech workers who were stiffed by the bankrupt companies. they may feel they're just taking equipment in lieu of a final paycheck.

There are no doubt some cases in which employees are getting stiffed by the company and are trying to recoup something, but I'm sure the vast majority of this is just plain old thievery.
