This is a false statement. Knock it off. I'm sure you can document that. You claimed I uttered a false statement, now you're faced with the opportunity to prove it either here, in FReepmail, or at harryc@tcia.net. I anxiously await the proof.
Thanks in advance,
Callahan

Why does it bother you so that Lysander Spooner was stauchly and morally opposed to the institution of human slavery?
To: Mercuria
With the National I.D. proposal and the development of a Homeland Security Squad...Its amazing, isn't it? Just two weks ago, the mere mention of these things would have had most FReepers stocking up on ammo, and there would have been few or no threads about anything else. But now with President Bush's "with us or against us" comment, I fear they will be accepted and passed all too easily.

"He was banned for his political views."
That is an excuse, you might as well say he was banned for very poor taste. In reality, he banned himself.
To: Jim Robinson
Hi Jim,
Good to see you here.
I'm glad that this was posted, and if it wasn't I'd post it.
Its your site, but I thought that Free Republic was to promote freedom, not the State. Our very own CIA is responsible for the Saddam Husseins, and Osam Bin Ladens, not "foreign powers." This is a big gift to the power hungry in Washington, and they'll use it to increase their powers and decrease our liberty. Your site will eventually fall for "the benefit of society" if the homeland security crowd has its way.
You see, they don't need security for the nation - they can't provide it anyway. They want security for the government, and that means eventually shutting down both FreeRepublic and LewRockwell.
I like both sites, but I've been spending my time at LewRockwell more than here, because this place smells strongly of Fascism at the moment. I'll be back more often when the hysteria subsides.
Thanks

Why does it bother you so that Lysander Spooner was stauchly and morally opposed to the institution of human slavery?
Because Spooner wanted individuals to put a stop to slavery with force, instead of relying on the holy and sacred government (that killed hundreds of thousands in the "War to End Slavery"), just like gun controllers want you to rely on the govt instead of defending yourself by force as an individual.

It is my impression that like many of today's terrorists, John Brown was motivited more by a pleasure in hatred for its own sake and a joy in killing, than in any humanitarian principle. He deserved to hang. However, many people of the time, still admired today, supported him, Thoroeau, for example. I am sorry if Spooner was among them.
To: sendtoscott
Spooner advocated terrorism. Predictably, many of his advocates oppose our government's fight against modern terrorism.

Don't wait too long. Life might pass you by.

In reality, he banned himself. This is vague and non-specific statement. Do you know what Demi said or did that that resulted in his banishment other than the cryptic "he banned himself?"

I read Free less now than ever before..not becuase of censorship...but because too many liberals have landed here and are allowed to post to suit me!
To: Roscoe
Spooner advocated terrorism.
Spooner advocated "private" violence for a cause most conservatives credit Lincoln for furthering by using "public" violence (i.e. the abolition of slavery). Why was the Civil War more moral than just slitting a few slave owners' throats?
To: Ada Coddington
In seeking warriors for the front line of Internet censorship, Ridge needs look no farther than FreeRepublic.com. The atmosphere there is now poisonous.Geez...if he thinks it's "poisonous" here, he ought to check out some of the newsgroups on Usenet and see what they are saying. FR is nearly tame in comparison.

Do you know what Demi said or did that that resulted in his banishment.....?Careful Dio, you're treading on some thin ice with this one. One must stick with mindless groupthink during times of crisis. Or hadn't you heard?
Kindest regards,
Callahan
To: sendtoscott
Osama also likes "private violence" directed against civilians.

Okay, DB, you piqued my curioristy. That link goes MSN/Slate. Then when I clicked "Back," those folks have put in a trick message on the button that says "Back to Unfree Republic."
Anyways, I thought "Slate" had been closed down due to huge losses or lack of interest.
So, is that a Microsoft site? If it is, I think ALL MSFT stockholders here should let Gates know that we don't approve of OUR company's money being used to support childish, name-calling organizations like "Slate."
Of course, Gates DOES think he's a DEMOCRAT. It's just amazing to me that someone as intelligent as Gates could do something so stupid as to donate to the DNC.
