Pope John Paul has issued a dramatic appeal that the world not be allowed to slide into war following attacks on the United States and urged against a deepening of religious divisions.
"With all my heart I beg God to keep the world in peace," the Pope said on Sunday at the end of a mass for some 50,000 people on the first full day of his visit to Kazakhstan, a Central Asian republic which may be caught up in an eventual regional crisis.
"We must not let what happened lead to a deepening of divisions. Religion must never be used as a reason for conflict," he said, referring to tensions with some parts of the Islamic world following the attacks in New York and Washington.(snip)
NEGOTIATIONS, NOT WAR
On arrival in Kazakhstan on Saturday, Pope John Paul said all controversies between nations must be resolved by negotiations and dialogue, not force of arms.
The Pope, who aides say is losing sleep over the possibility of war, celebrated a mass that began with a stiff wind blowing in from Siberia over the flat steppes and ended in sunshine.
Not when it's written by the likes of you.

I can't believe I am wasting time and bandwidth responding to you. I suppose you don't believe we've sent people to the moon, you probably think the earth is flat, and no doubt, you have an unshakeable belief that Elvis is still alive. Do you also believe in UFOs, though? That part I'm curious about...At any rate, I'm sorry that Oxford University Press does not ride high on your list of credible sources - yes, I know what a shoddy reputation they have, publishing all of that dubious material. And of course, there are all those well-known reports about their blatant lying and distorting of facts -- those tricky Oxford University Press guys. And you know, they've got a notoriously secret Catholic society agenda that they're subservient to (yes, they are part of that great Catholic conspiracy that you believe in - I'm a part of it as well, might as well come out and admit that now, since you've discovered our secret plot to rule the world. Dang, couldn't get that past you - you're just too darn smart. Foiled again.)...
Anyway, I don't own the book. But I'll be more than happy to e-mail a contact representative there and ask the person specifically about the manner in which they arrived at the figure that is listed in the book. But seeing as how you won't believe it either (incidentally, do you believe that I'm actually writing what I'm writing? I'm just trying to get a handle on your paranoia), I'm not sure what good it will do. But then again, you're not big on believing anything in print unless it jibes with your already-formulated view of reality. So if it happens to disagree with your opinions, then you just disregard it as conspiracy. Well, that's a wonderful delusional way to go through life, but it doesn't make for very good discussion. So when you're ready to come back to the real world, let me know, and I'll do the legwork to find out about those statistics in the OUP book. Watch out for the Catholics, they're tapping your phones too -- so make sure you keep your tinfoil ready, that old triumvirate of the Pope, the Bildenburgs, and Colonel Sanders are hard at work trying to take over the world. Oh, the Colonel, and his wee beady eyes!
