Just the panic from a small plane flying over a stadium full of people would kill hundreds or even thousands in the rush to get out. I wonder what the chances of someone with a 9mm or .45 actually hitting a small plane would be. Doubtfull at best I imagine.

Extremely doubtful. The US Army used to teach that a squad of soldiers concentrating rifle fire at a point in front of the airplane had a chance of bringing down an aircraft but admitted that it was unlikely to be effective. Of course, propeller driven aircraft move relatively slowly so you would get more shots in. I live about 35 miles west of Dulles International airport and I have been watching the skies carefully for the past week. I have seen only commercial jets, military fighters, and military helicopters. I have several friends who are private pilots and they tell me that they have no intention of flying until people feel more secure because they don't want anyone taking potshots at them from the ground.

Well I guess that the attacks failed to materialize this weekend but IMHO they will come. Trying to think like a terrorist leads me to conclude that they are waiting for a slight relaxation of security. Such relaxations inevitably happen most especially when after the initial stikes nothing seems to be going on for a few days or even weeks.

As a precedent from miltary history the start of WWII was caharacterized by a brief period of intense fighting in subjugating Poland then by a "phony war" which ended in a real sense with the invasion of Norway. Still the British, French, Belgians, and Netherlanders were unprepared for the Western Blitzkrieg. The Schlieffen plan was know from the days of the Franco Prissian war and it was still executed by the Wermacht. Hopefully we will be prepared and ready when and where the terrorists launch their next strike. I for one am thinking maybe the Coast Guard should be very much augmented.
