Thanks for posting this, Dan. It is an excellent essay. With the fear of sounding "judgmental" (not really) I couldn't help my thoughts last night. As I caught the last minutes of the celebrity (for lack of a better term) bash and the reports about it on the late news, I was offended. Here stood all (at least most) these people who haven't really got a clue about God, yet throw His name around as if it is the buzz word of the day. It is and that's the problem. Talking about God and knowing Him are not the same thing.

I can only hope and pray that this horror has brought some people to their senses. Maybe some will realize that they should seek Him every day; not just when they are overwhelmed with helplessness.

Talking about God and knowing Him are not the same thing.

James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble!

Saying you believe in God has nothing to do with eternal salvation through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. What a wake-up call so many having coming to them. Unfortunately, it will be too late.

Totally true. I too am concerned that the word "God" is being used as if it were an amulet or a magical formula. But one hopes that it at least might signal a re-opening of the category, and provide opportunities for those who know God to tell their friends and neighbors about Him.
