It would be extremely naive to imagine that terrorists who are willing to blow themselves up in Israel or to crash a plane at the loss of their own and many other lives do so for some commendable humanitarian cause. The courage comes solely from a unique doctrine of Islam. Abu-Bakr, the first Caliph to succeed Muhammad (and one of the few to whom Muhammad promised Paradise without martyrdom), declared that even if he had one foot in Paradise he could not trust Allah to let him in. The only sure way in Islam of achieving Paradise is to sacrifice one's life in jihad. Yes, suicide is forbidden as self-murder. But to sacrifice one's life in killing infidels carries the highest reward. And what reward does Paradise bring to the jihad martyr? He is promised a palace of pearls in which are 70 mansions; inside each mansion are 70 houses and in each house a bed on which are 70 sheets and on each sheet a beautiful virgin. He is assured that he will have the appetite and strength of 100 men for food and sex. This is the fantastic dream that is fed to Muslim boys from earliest childhood. This motivation alone gives the reckless courage and determination to train and execute terrorist deeds in which they sacrifice their lives in bringing death and destruction to "the enemies of Allah."

They are only a virgin once, after that they are just another wife.

Jihad, the Arab Conquests and the Position of Non-Muslim Subjects
"Mankind is divided into two groups -- Muslims and non-Muslims. The Muslims are members of the Islamic community, the umma, who possess territories in the Dar ul Islam, the Land of Islam, where the edicts of Islam are fully promulgated. The non-Muslims are the Harbi, people of the Dar ul Harb, the Land of Warfare, any country belonging to the infidels which has not been subdued by Islam but which, nontheless, is destined to pass into Islamic jurisdiction either by conversion or by war (Harb). All acts of war are permitted in the Dar ul Harb."

The Origins of the Koran
For Gibbon it was an "incoherent rhapsody of fable," for Carlyle an "insupportable stupidity," while here is what the German scholar Salomon Reinach thought: "From the literary point of view, the Koran has little merit. Declamation, repetition, puerility, a lack of logic and coherence strike the unprepared reader at every turn. It is humiliating to the human intellect to think that this mediocre literature has been the subject of innumerable commentaries, and that millions of men are still wasting time absorbing it."

"I know of no method beyond prayer to prevent this from happening." If we have one more terrorist incident, I'll be for violating someones civil rights.

Many people responded exactly as you on Sept 11. People who were traditionally dovish. Had our military acted decisively in the first week, our nation would be safer today. Not necessarily from further attacks within our borders already in play. But as you say, we would be respected finally. Now we look rather foolish. Building up to a war with decreasing rhetoric daily to the point of allowing our Sec of State to have the last word after our Pres has spoken. And what were those words addressed to a foreign press? That the war against terrorism will never end. Sometimes I believe American foreign policy is being run by hippies.

but you also missed a stunning truth: if there are so many Muslims, and they are really devout as everyone here wants to believe . . . why is Salman Rushdie still alive???? That's one of the best riposts I've seen; my compliments.
But we're faced with some choices, aren't we? Either:
a) moslems aren't very devout, so these fatwas are meaningless, or
b) moslems think such declarations are silly, so the fatwas are still meaningless, or
c) moslems don't act unless someone really stirs them up, and keeps them stirred up, or
d) moslems are a great bunch of guys and gals who think bint Larden is a Clymer.
There may be other possibilities, but these are the ones I perceive at the moment. In any of these four cases, why won't one (just one!) moslem cleric come out with a death fatwah against bint Larden? Or, failing that, why won't one (just one!) cleric come out and state that bint Larden is an infidel and a nonbeliever since he's misinterpreting the koran and using it for his own nefarious purposes?

You are totally wrong on your assumptions regarding Dave Hunt. He is highly regarded as probably the sharpest and clearest thinker in Christendom today.
You should show fairness and point to where he is wrong. Generalizing, as you have done, it's very easy to do but will get you nowhere.
It is also a fact that those like Dave Hunt, who dare touch sacred cows, will be subjected to the ires of the cows owners. It's always been like this. Just look at Jesus!
Anyway, regardless of opinions, his article STANDS and it is that which is being discussed here. Please remember that.

if anyone thinks that drafting women to fight these muslim nuts is worthy, they are as crazy as the nuts we are going to slaughter.

To: Leroy S. Mort
yeah, religion is for dead people. man made traditions claiming God, but denying the power thereof. only a relationship with Jesus Christ bears any positive eternal fruit. oh, when you stand before the Lord on your judgement day, he won't judge *you* by what anyone else did or didn't do. only whether 1)you have given your life to Christ and once you've cleared that hurdle putting you in heaven, 2)how you personally conducted your own life. no excuses.

That bein' the case, you may be in deep doo doo ;-)

It may well be that they are afraid of either the opprobrium or violent response from fanatics that reside among them.....
