It is. Not only are our borders open and we cannot monitor our "visitors" we also cannot get a handle on electronic communications to these "visitors". Since the electronic border is wide open too. Unlike our own air traffic system, we have no way to stop some traffic if it becomes necessary. I mean by that that we have no easy way to, for example, block all net traffice from ".cn". The net is the wild-wild west and that's good, but it's bad too.

Some technologies developed here in America should have never been allowed to so easily migrate overseas. Over time it should become clear that Bill Clinton is our own Judas. To get some idea how uncaring he actually was for the safety of the American people look no farther than the look on his wife's face.

There's no "prime directive" here that can be easily enforced. If you can do math, you can encrypt your communications fairly easily. Even if you don't want to write the actual code, you can come here, copy a copy of PGP onto a floppy or CD and go home. If you have an internet connection it's even easier to distribute it to everyone you want.

Our only option is of a broader scope - remake the world in our image so we don't have to lay awake at night wondering if Saddam and Osama are chatting via encrypted IRC.

Before all is said and done, we are going to have to take a very hard look at ourselves (the nation). Some issues will come to light that will not be easy to swallow or accept. For example, 99.99% of us believe Bill Clinton compromised our National Security to remain in power and to fatten his post-presidency coffers. But are we ready to face irrefutable proof if it comes to light? As a nation, are we ready to accept we (no, not us freepers) re-elected him even though we knew he was corrupt, because he made us feel good? What happens if (and only used as an example) we discover the FALN had a hand in the slaughter of our citizens? Or Marc Rich helped finance this by selling arms to Bin Laden?

It might not be pretty, but we do need to know. I hope our leaders will be wise enough to tell us the truth as ugly as it could get.
