Thanks! I think you are failing to address a major problem - the absolute explosion of vanity posts. It is very difficult to freep when hitting "latest articles" brings up 10-20 extraordinarily stupid vanity posts.

Bump for clarity

The guidlines are fine, and this is a great web site, but could we PLEASE be warned BEFORE a thread is deleted just in case those of us who followed the rules on a rogue thread actually had some little thing worth keeping rather than being deleted never to be seen again??

Good work - it's a tough job!

Good to have these clarifications. I'm sure I've stepped over the line a few times but I don't get mad about having anything pulled.
Can anything be done about folks who post the exact same screed (sometimes complete with pictures) over and over on thread after thread? I could cite examples but I'm sure you can come up with them yourself. Such repetitive posts are highly annoying.

this (Posting Guidelines) might be a good 1st link in the Post Article (catagory selection) screen.
...sort of a read this first. keep up the good work and thanks.

Thanks, newbie.

My two cents? Way too many "vanity posts", it takes a long time to sift through the threads to find the "meat".
I'll be right back, going to ask Laz how to runthis place ;)

"advocacy of killing of innocents, and nuke-em-all sentiments, etc."That's something that definetely puts a black stain on the ethos of FR.

Stop whining! Your job sounds like FUN!
Sort of like refereeing a six-team battle royal in a cage. Wheeeeeee! LOL!
Thanks for dumping the creeps that crawl in here!

This is one of the nicest threads I've seen in a long time. I'm reading it while watching night of 1,000 stars on the television.
I was totally out of line for posting the spin-off thread called "Dumb Argyll Thread Go Bye-Bye." That was right out. Argyll's thread was atrocious (I saved it off-line in case anyone wants it for entertainment purposes) but my vanity thread was uncalled for. If I see Argyll (No Current FReeper by that name) in Union Square holding a bloody nose and picking up pieces of his cello, I will apologize.
I was NOT responsible for Roebucks' spin-off of my spin-off. I support FR's decision to pull this thread, posted under Breaking News, if you can believe it.
I promise not to post military movements, even if I see them on national television, marching through Times Square on bicycles and squawking like chickens. Broadway is entertaining enough.
I love FreeRepublic, I love America, and I love Corona with a wedge of lime.
Still in Manhattan, wearing my new porkpie hat, and just being,

Does this mean you're going to let Demidog back?

Because we are 'at war' with terrorism, you may already have seen the old WWII policy of 'loose-lips sink ships' stated in posts here - something Jim began here, and has recently been followed and resurrected by major media outlets.
International Security, U.S. Department of State is one good source to control rumor and confirm info that would not be classified.

Thanks for the info. I've been here for four years and it's high time we had somebody other than Jim Robinson handling the day-to-day policing of this forum. Now maybe Jim can finally get some sleep!
In the four years I've been here, I've never once complained about a post or hit the abuse button. I got a thick skin and can deal with anything anybody wants to throw at me. But the guidelines are here for a reason and they ought to be enforced if they are to be taken seriously by the rest of us.
The only suggestion I would make, if it can be done, is to have the option to "take back" a hasty post or reply. More than once, in the heat of the moment, I have hit the POST button and then thought immediately afterwards: "Oh crap! What the hell did I post that for!"

Thanks so much for all you do to keep FR up & running. It's NOT a job I'd want. You're ALL doing an excellent job.

These are very reasonable guidelines. My only concern is that they may unintentionally give a free pass to anti-Semites. Anti-Semitism has been so universally unacceptable since WWII that its proponents have become very adept at the arts of indirection. No crude Jew-baiting but a constant drip-drip of insinuation about "Zionism" and the like.
I have seen a considerable number of threads where "members since September 15" converge and totally distract serious posters with a stream of Big Lie progaganda blaming Israel for 9-11, talking about the captivity of American policy to the "Israel lobby," insinuating when challenged that Jews and their allies are victimizing honest speakers like the poster.
All this stuff is classic and identifiable anti-Semitic disinformation, but an "anti-racism" guideline won't catch it.
There may be nothing to be done about it, and I am grateful for the good sense that guides the moderation of this forum. But I do believe that there are anti-Semitic disruptors here.

To coin a phrase "Let's Roll". You people do a fine job, keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for putting this out. Right after the attack I told my neighbor (who is black conservative) to check out freerepublic. Needless to say I've been embarassed by a lot of the posts and regretted recommending the site to him and just hoped he didn't see some of the threads I saw. I'm glad to see that the flaming and name calling is history (I pray so anyway).
Thanks so very very much for keeping on top of things and making freerepublic a great place to be.

Chalk me up with those who aren't too sure about someone other than Jim deciding who stays and who goes. I say this, because it came as a bit of a shock to those of us in Puget Sound to find our local get-together was cancelled when our host was suddenly banned from FR a week before our scheduled hog roast. Rather a brutal way to throw the monkey wrench in chapter plans. Still don't know what he (our host) said, but can't imagine him saying anything offensive enough to be kicked off FreeRepublic. At the very least, our local officers should have been notified first.
