BUSH APPOINTS PRO-ABORTION 'CATHOLIC' TO HEAD HOME SECURITY

WASHINGTON, September 21, 2001 (LSN.ca) - In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States, President George Bush announced last night the creation of a Cabinet-level position to head the new Office of Homeland Security. In a great disappointment to pro-lifers, Bush named notoriously pro-abortion Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, to head the office.

Matt Abbott, director of public affairs for America's Pro-Life Action League told LifeSite, "If Ridge refuses to ensure the security of the most helpless citizens of his state - the unborn - how can he be expected to safeguard security for the nation?" Abbott also commented that Ridge is "a self-proclaimed Catholic while maintaining his strident pro-abortion position. What kind of principles does a person like that have? It makes you uncertain of such a person's leadership qualities."

See related coverage on the position and Ridge's pro-abortion stand:

God first, then all else. Insofar as America stands with Godly principles, I am with it.

>He has forced his beliefs on me by an almost 100% pro-abortion voting record as a US Congressman from PA. Don't give us this "personally opposed but" line. Ridge is not "personally opposed." He isn't even lukewarm. He is ardently pro-abort.

He forced his beliefs on you if and only if you became pro-choice, which I assume you haven't. If you allowed politicians to make up your mind and force their beliefs on you, then you have a weak will (however I believe you do not).

I am a Republican living in a district represented by Democrats. Does this mean their forced their beliefs on me and I'm now pro-affirmative action and pro-slavery repartations, etc.????

No, I do not let politicians or anybody else force their beliefs upon me. If anything, being represented by politicians of a different persuasion allows me to study the issues more carefuly and in many cases helps me reinforce the beliefs I already have. Sad to say, when I've had Republicans representing me at whatever level, I hardly pay attention to local/state politics because I generally agree with them.

If he is in fact somehow forcing his beliefs on you, then either move to another state, or seek counseling. You can break the cycle of forced beliefs!!!!

..."If Bush did it you know it is the right thing to do. We cannot pretend to even understand his greater vision. Only trust him."...

I've seen some of your posts in the past, but I can't figure out if you are serious when you say this or if you forgot to < /sarcasm>.

Meanwhile, ISHLMBO. :)

Inappropriate. Sounds like the didactic tactics of the Taliban. Ridge is fine!

And your totally ridiculous point would be? Just what in the world does abortion have to do with fighting terrorism?

Jeeeezus, get a life! All talk, no thought!

>If Bush did it you know it is the right thing to do. We cannot pretend to even understand his greater vision. Only trust him.

Up until the point where he stays in the Oval Office all the time, dressed in a robe, talking about snails crawling on straight razors, having his staff slaughter cows outside the White House, and mumbling "The horror. The horror".

Great questions, I agree with you, we just don't get it. And then people think that when you point this out you are somehow less patriotic.

I love my country but I firmly believe that if we dont stop killing babies we will crumble, no matter how much we call on God, or believe it isnt so.

I dont know about you but this blinded allegiance to "forget every prinicple you stand for and follow the leader" makes me think what it will be like when anti-Christ makes his appearance.

I think we have to act, we now have no choice, things seem to have been set in motion. I suppose that until we learn the lesson we will just have to expect more of the same.

So to me it is a single issue and Mother Teresa said it quite plainly and perfectly: "the fruit of abortion is nuclear war" & "no country that permits abortion will ever have peace."

Look Bush appointed Whitman. You are mixed up. Bush is not anti-abortion, he is anti-racist.

Tom Ridge is smart, competent and tough. . .just what we need for a man who must meet the difficult challenges of this job. It raises my confidence to know that he is assuming these responsibilities.

He may accept pro choice; but he does not promote it or the nonsense that goes with it. . .

There are times when it is best, IMHO, that we should just not 'go there'. . .

Tom Ridge should have our prayers; and we are surely free to include in those prayers, that he will have a change of heart; from 'Choice' to 'Life'. . .

Truth isn't "for sale." It is self evident.

You and I agree on the truth of abortion; others don't, which means it is not "self-evident."

This cabinet position will have oversight over all the government groups---FBI, BATF, etc---Freepers have been bemoaning for infringing Americans' rights for years

No it won't.

Ridge will be responsible for coordinating information exchange between the various intelligence agencies. Mueller will still report to Ashcroft, the BATF still reports to Treasury. Ridge reports to Bush.

I suspect Ridge will hire lots of IS folks who will build large databases with integration into existing systems of the various agencies. Everybody will be able to get to everybody else's data.

That's all this is Doc. We have to be able to TRACK people who are a threat to this country.

Ridge's abortion stance has nothing to do with this, no matter how much you protest.

I know you'd like to eliminate pro-choicers from the face of the earth, but I suggest you try a different tact.

Looks to me like there are some on FR who want a king, not a president. Better not question any actions that the king president makes, 'cause that's treasonous.

Which should we fear most, a president that wants unlimited powers without dissention or those who would vest the president with unlimited powers and quell dissention?

"I dont know about you but this blinded allegiance to "forget every prinicple you stand for and follow the leader" makes me think what it will be like when anti-Christ makes his appearance"

Think we had eight years of the anti-Christ; and believe the numbers will support that numerous Catholics voted for him. . .since many remain true to their Democrat roots.

Hard to even find that 'line in the sand' sometimes. . .

I think some of what you say has merit, if we pray perhaps enough people will "get it" but I think we are going to have to "go there" before we start claiming the moral high ground.

There is a great deal of prayer and turning to God, I pray that it will get us going in the right direction.

I think that Ridge, or anyone who "accepts" abortion, is just as guilty as those who promote it. Pontius Pilate accepted crucifixion for Jesus yet he wasnt too thrilled about having to do it. And his acceptance is what put on the final seal.

I'm no angel myself, and I'm not pointing fingers, got enough of my own things to answer for. Lets keep up the prayers.

I have nothing against Bin Laden except for that terrorism thingy --
but that’s a single issue so it doesn’t matter.

. . . abortion is terrorism . . .

LOL, your right about 8 years of the anti-christ, I think he was a forerunner of same. And sadly alot of catholics did vote for him, they'll have to answer for that.

And your poltical credentials are ? President Bush calls you once a week to discuss who he wants for V.P. in 2004 ? Carl Rove has you to breakfast meetings once a month for advice ?

Why should anyone believe your arch hyperbole ? You know NOTHING ! All you have are your own hysterical ravings.
