BUSH APPOINTS PRO-ABORTION 'CATHOLIC' TO HEAD HOME SECURITY
WASHINGTON, September 21, 2001 (LSN.ca) - In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States, President George Bush announced last night the creation of a Cabinet-level position to head the new Office of Homeland Security. In a great disappointment to pro-lifers, Bush named notoriously pro-abortion Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, to head the office.
Matt Abbott, director of public affairs for America's Pro-Life Action League told LifeSite, "If Ridge refuses to ensure the security of the most helpless citizens of his state - the unborn - how can he be expected to safeguard security for the nation?" Abbott also commented that Ridge is "a self-proclaimed Catholic while maintaining his strident pro-abortion position. What kind of principles does a person like that have? It makes you uncertain of such a person's leadership qualities."

Ditto.
Yep.
I knew the condescension would come next.
We're dumb, you're smart.
You've never been in sales, have you?
Absolutely. The vision of George W. Bush rises far above single issue ideology. He is our leader. He is trustworthy, and our priority must be to be loyal Americans, not single issue ideologues.
And in the mean time, you will be chasing imaginary bogiemen, and the rest of us will be working to serve our beloved country and support our fine President (and we will fight abortion in reality, not fearful fantasy as you are).
First of all, the guy has earned his stripes to believe in whatever he chooses to believe in. He earned his Constitutional rights to believe and practice whatever he chooses
Second of all, this has no bearing on last week - actually it's tasteless to even be dragging the abortion issue up and reeks of people who don't care about this country and who think their agendas, no matter what they maybe, are more important than this country's problems.
Nope.
Truth isn't "for sale." It is self evident. An inalienable right to life, from conception to natural death, is the foundational principle upon which all other rights and freedoms are predicated.
What part of this do you fail to comprehend?
This cabinet position will have oversight over all the government groups---FBI, BATF, etc---Freepers have been bemoaning for infringing Americans' rights for years. Ridge, a man who refuses to acknowledge the foundational right upon which all other rights are predicated, is now grand poobah of all these federal groups.
Does that not give you reason for pause?
If not, why not?
"no country that permits abortion will ever have peace" & "The fruit of abortion is nuclear war"-Mother Teresa
The bill is coming due.
I'm with you there.
This was setup ostensibly to fight terrorism overseas, and could be abused to persecute Americans of Arabic descent or of Islamic beliefs rather quickly, no matter that it was radical Islamics who did this.
Outside of the WTC, what was the worst terrorist attack on the US? One carried out by white males supported by an extremist Christian group. What's to say they won't start targeting all Christians after that.
We have to watch how they treat Arab Americans and Islamics in America, because if they crack down on them, then the precedent is set to start targeting Christian groups shortly after.
On the other hand, they haven't been, and the only innocents harmed have been so far by rednecks (who can't even tell Indians from Arabs) and the Governor is a fair and honest person, so hopefully I don't think that will happen. Only time will tell.
Thank you. Finally someone is noticing the central concept here. How can we build homeland peace and security on the backs of those who destroy peace and bring on nuclear war by their very votes as legislators?
Many are putting their trust in men (Bush, Ridge) instead of where it belongs. This will not bring peace, nor security. Along that path lies only more suffering, war, and loss of those freedoms we hold dear. Bush is a great leader. He gave one of the greatest speeches in the history of this nation last night. But he is not infallible. Freepers forget that at their own peril.
And to point out the threat to our freedoms that appointing a man who does not recognize the foundational principle of all human rights is neither "one issue" nor "Right wing" anything but simply harsh realizism among good fellow men with, unfortunately, their heads in the fog of an eclipse of reason.
When you only report facts that support your cause and leave out the rest, you diminish your cause.
Governor Ridge doesn't believe in abortion for his family. He doesn't believe though that he has a right to force his beliefs on others. Perhaps as he ages, he may speak more forcefully.
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
He has forced his beliefs on me by an almost 100% pro-abortion voting record as a US Congressman from PA. Don't give us this "personally opposed but" line. Ridge is not "personally opposed." He isn't even lukewarm. He is ardently pro-abort.
