What the hell does his view on abortion have to do with his abilities for this post? What does it have to do with his leadership abilities? Guliani is pro-abortion. Are you questioning his leadership? I am anti-abortion, but it's not my sole criteria for judging someone. Some people need to get a life.

Ditto.

Well you told half the truth about Act 17, how about the rest. The NRA and handgun control supported Act 17. It brought about instant check and got rid of the three day waiting period for hand guns. It brought long guns under instant check as the trade off. No one in Pa complained about it. Most of us thought it was a good idea. PA. was a shall issue state before Gov. Ridge and still is. Ridge has made no move against this. His stewardship of PA. has been pretty good. State government runs efficiently, we have a surplus, and most residents don't even know state government exists. No intrusiveness. No scandals, we are left alone. If only the federal government were run like this.

Never have I been so utterly disillusioned and disappointed by the rank and file Freepers here tonight. Your inability to see current anf future trends and perceive serious dangers within the "conservative" party is heartbreaking.

Yep.

I knew the condescension would come next.

We're dumb, you're smart.

You've never been in sales, have you?

Just because the NRA supported it does't make it a good deal. BTW, the GOA did not support it.

I am with you on this one. If we as a nation are serious about protecting ourselves against terrorism, then let's start by protecting unborn babies from it. Muslim clerics point to the way we murder the unborn as proof that we as a nation are the great satan, morally weak, and vulnerable to defeat. By keeping these terrorist cells called abortion centers open we give aid and comfort to our enemies. These should be closed for the duration of our war against terrorism, a war which should begin at home. If we are going to be united in this war, let's include the unborn on our side and the God who hears their cries.

If Bush did it you know it is the right thing to do. We cannot pretend to even understand his greater vision. Only trust him.

Absolutely. The vision of George W. Bush rises far above single issue ideology. He is our leader. He is trustworthy, and our priority must be to be loyal Americans, not single issue ideologues.

Which is why we will never see them suicide-bomb the SCOTUS. Bush would replace it with a panel that would wipe out Roe v. Wade so quick our heads would swim.

History alone will write whether you or I was logical at this juncture.

And in the mean time, you will be chasing imaginary bogiemen, and the rest of us will be working to serve our beloved country and support our fine President (and we will fight abortion in reality, not fearful fantasy as you are).

I'm glad to see that in the middle of a national tragedy, people are bringing their agendas back to the forefront.

First of all, the guy has earned his stripes to believe in whatever he chooses to believe in. He earned his Constitutional rights to believe and practice whatever he chooses

Second of all, this has no bearing on last week - actually it's tasteless to even be dragging the abortion issue up and reeks of people who don't care about this country and who think their agendas, no matter what they maybe, are more important than this country's problems.

You've never been in sales, have you?

Nope.

Truth isn't "for sale." It is self evident. An inalienable right to life, from conception to natural death, is the foundational principle upon which all other rights and freedoms are predicated.

What part of this do you fail to comprehend?

This cabinet position will have oversight over all the government groups---FBI, BATF, etc---Freepers have been bemoaning for infringing Americans' rights for years. Ridge, a man who refuses to acknowledge the foundational right upon which all other rights are predicated, is now grand poobah of all these federal groups.

Does that not give you reason for pause?

If not, why not?

Time for those quotes again:

"no country that permits abortion will ever have peace" & "The fruit of abortion is nuclear war"-Mother Teresa

The bill is coming due.

>My thought after hearing of the new cabinet position is, "this office will someday be used to persecute Christians." My husband and son agreed with me.

I'm with you there.

This was setup ostensibly to fight terrorism overseas, and could be abused to persecute Americans of Arabic descent or of Islamic beliefs rather quickly, no matter that it was radical Islamics who did this.

Outside of the WTC, what was the worst terrorist attack on the US? One carried out by white males supported by an extremist Christian group. What's to say they won't start targeting all Christians after that.

We have to watch how they treat Arab Americans and Islamics in America, because if they crack down on them, then the precedent is set to start targeting Christian groups shortly after.

On the other hand, they haven't been, and the only innocents harmed have been so far by rednecks (who can't even tell Indians from Arabs) and the Governor is a fair and honest person, so hopefully I don't think that will happen. Only time will tell.

"no country that permits abortion will ever have peace" & "The fruit of abortion is nuclear war"-Mother Teresa ...The bill is coming due.

Thank you. Finally someone is noticing the central concept here. How can we build homeland peace and security on the backs of those who destroy peace and bring on nuclear war by their very votes as legislators?

Many are putting their trust in men (Bush, Ridge) instead of where it belongs. This will not bring peace, nor security. Along that path lies only more suffering, war, and loss of those freedoms we hold dear. Bush is a great leader. He gave one of the greatest speeches in the history of this nation last night. But he is not infallible. Freepers forget that at their own peril.

And to point out the threat to our freedoms that appointing a man who does not recognize the foundational principle of all human rights is neither "one issue" nor "Right wing" anything but simply harsh realizism among good fellow men with, unfortunately, their heads in the fog of an eclipse of reason.

You left out half the facts. The way you reported Act 17, you made it sound like it was a one sided deal. Gun grabbers get what they want, gun owners lose. This isn't true.

When you only report facts that support your cause and leave out the rest, you diminish your cause.

Governor Ridge doesn't believe in abortion for his family. He doesn't believe though that he has a right to force his beliefs on others. Perhaps as he ages, he may speak more forcefully.

The way I look at it, anything that conflicts with the 2nd Ammendment is a sellout.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Even the Dems aren't complaining it was a Republican. What is your problem

You must not have gotten the memo, it's one America right now. You are either with America or you are not, which is it?

Hey creep. He did not appoint Ridge to oversee anything remotely connected to abortion. What are you trying to say here?

He has forced his beliefs on me by an almost 100% pro-abortion voting record as a US Congressman from PA. Don't give us this "personally opposed but" line. Ridge is not "personally opposed." He isn't even lukewarm. He is ardently pro-abort.
