You can twist and turn it anyway you want. The fact is, the government has too much control over our lives anyways. I'm sure some of you would like a cabinet-level Secretary of Morality. That's fine and dandy, I think the Taliban has one of those. Oh wait they do.

So are you claiming that you have the right under the Constitution to commit murder if you think it convenient?

Some people evidently think we're fighting for the freedom to silence Christians. They claim they want the government out of their lives. Very soon they will want the government to persecute or kill anyone who disagrees with them. You can see it starting on threads like this one.

I believe you are quite right.

moderate pro-lifers like myself

You sell yourself short. You can't possible be so wet and chickensh*t as to try to have it both ways.

Ridge will make life and death decisions, whether we are prepared at this time to envisage such a scenario

He will not. His position is essentially one of information-gatherer. How does an information-gatherer make "life and death" decisions?

...and you come across as a "pragmatic" Catholic, just like Ridge.

You are a one-issue voter. I am not. Your judgmentalism can lead you to whatever conclusion it will.

Your criterion for government service is too narrow.

When you set up a religious government (not unlike the religious government in many Arab nations), you can hire whomever you wish.

You must not have gotten the memo, it's one America right now. You are either with America or you are not, which is it?

Which America? The one where we have the freedom to speak our minds, or the one where any deviance from the party line is seen as treason?

That's fine and dandy, I think the Taliban has one of those. Oh wait they do. Whether you think abortion is right or wrong or murder or whatever, the fact is, the more government has control over what you can do, the worse off you our. History has proven this over and over. These things start off small, government restricts this little bit over here, that little bit over there, pretty soon, you have to show papers everywhere you go and get approval to travel out of the city and to take a job.

You obviously don't know me very well. I'm definitely for less government. That's why I'm not a registered Republican - because they have grown the government (at least) as much as the Demo-rats. But when it comes to the issue of abortion - I feel that preborn babies are persons, with rights. And what kind of society are we if we don't respect innocent life?

Since you asked, ;^)

"Pro-life" says no humans should be killed except to immediately save human life.

We don't make distinctions between certain humans who may be killed because they are deemed not "human enough." We believe that without life, all the other rights are at the mercy of whoever has the most force or power.

What's the difference between the single issue, fanatical pro-life folks and the Taleban?

About the same as the difference between loving life and loving death.

He's heading Home Security, for Pete's sake. Respect your leaders, administering this has nothing to do with abortion. He'll do a fine job.

Tom Ridge is a very good and loyal friend of President Bush. That makes me very glad Ridge has been appointed to this position. I hope he will use it to help "watch Bush's back" because we have many many people in this country who will be doing everything they can to destroy our President and this country. Who knows? Maybe working directly with our prolife President Bush will enable Mr. Ridge to modify his views on this subject! More importantly, I am very glad it is a civilian, not a military person, running this new "homeland (I hate that term) defense". Yes, we face the possibility that at some future point, this agency would go after law abiding taxpaying God fearing peaceful Americans....when and if someone like a Hitlery Clinton comes to power. But Clinton used the FBI and other agencies for that very function - so having this new agency is not a guarantee that a future "czar" would be any more of a threat to LATPGFPA.

I, for one, am very very glad Governor Ridge is taking this position. Now, he will need to prove himself. I think he will do extremely well.

C'mon Romulus. I'll let the insults roll off.

Is that any way to build support? Really now.

The Taliban endorses murder of innocents. Pro-life people are trying to end the murder of innocents. To expand upon that, what's the difference between those who support abortion and the Taliban?

Excellent answer!

>So are you claiming that you have the right under the Constitution to commit murder if you think it convenient?

*chuckles* I love these little word games.

I'll tell you something, abortion is not going to destroy my family today, tomorrow, next week, next year. Terrorism could. I care if you try and steal the spotlight from a national tragedy to focus it on a personal choice

I also believe that you don't care if people in the military, police, firefighters, EMS, etc. are pro-life or pro-choice, just as long as they do what they can to save or defend your family's life in an emergency and hence, what Gov. Ridge's personal choices are should not matter as long as he does the job he was picked to do.

I'm a paid, published author in several national Catholic periodicals, as well as a trade publication. Not often, no high volume. But a published author none the less.

One nationally published article to my credit is one of the few nationally published articles to take an in depth look at Ridge's pro-abortion history and its ramifications on the 2000 presidential elections. That article involved months of research in my spare time and discussions with PA politicians and pro-life leaders.

I also am a physician and surgeon. That is just about the extent of my credentials. Of course, I have not claimed any "credentials" here. Why insinuate that I have?

And you, what are your credentials, and what have you published, to be attacking me in such a manner?
