BUSH APPOINTS PRO-ABORTION 'CATHOLIC' TO HEAD HOME SECURITY
WASHINGTON, September 21, 2001 (LSN.ca) - In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States, President George Bush announced last night the creation of a Cabinet-level position to head the new Office of Homeland Security. In a great disappointment to pro-lifers, Bush named notoriously pro-abortion Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, to head the office.
Matt Abbott, director of public affairs for America's Pro-Life Action League told LifeSite, "If Ridge refuses to ensure the security of the most helpless citizens of his state - the unborn - how can he be expected to safeguard security for the nation?" Abbott also commented that Ridge is "a self-proclaimed Catholic while maintaining his strident pro-abortion position. What kind of principles does a person like that have? It makes you uncertain of such a person's leadership qualities."

It saddens me that women decide to kill their babies, but I can't force my morality on someone that doesn't want it. To do so makes me no better than the Taliban or the Nazis. The best I can do is educate and hope that the free will God gave us is used to support life.
As Bush said, if we are fighting for the principles of freedom we believe in, then we need to live by them.
Whether we disagree with others on issues like abortion we at least have the right to believe as we choose, and now face an enemy who would take away that freedom and destroy us in a second if they had the power.
It's hard to believe that some people are so wrapped up in themselves and their personal pet-peeves that the WTC terrorist attacks didn't wake them up.
And I agree that these single issue kooks more resemble the totalitarian intolerance of the Taliban than they do Americans at this moment.
I'm not a Catholic, and no matter how much good Mother Theresa may have done, that was her opinion, and a directive from GOD.
Both sound like the fast track to a dictatorship.

I agree. Even if you wished to take your 2 year old to your doctor and have him "put to sleep", that is no business of the gov. Hell, if we don't have a right to slaughter our own children, what rights DO we have? < /sarcasm>

Homeland Defence must support the right to lifeBecause being a government official it is his job to upkeep the laws of the land, and unfortunately at this time abortion is legal, and his position will have no say on if it will remain legal, and as such his personal beliefs on abortion are meaningless to the discussion.
I know you will say I'm whacky but being catholic we believe we have a little more insight into these opinions. I'll give you an example or two. Just about every catholic knows that Our Lady appeared in Fatima in the early 20th century. When she did she foretold future events which came to pass, namely that the first world war would end and that if mankind did not change, Russia would become a great power and spread communism around the world. She also said a second world war would start and it would be worse than the first. Both things happened. Our Lady also said that if mankind didnt change there would be an "annihilation of nations." I dont think we have changed much, in fact I think we have gotten worse. I'm praying that we dont have an annihilation.
There have been numerous other prophetic statements by catholic saints throughout history. I've got a couple books containing same.

Some of the catholics here are aware that Sr. Faustina was recently canonized. The Church believes, and many of us believe, that Jesus and Mary had both appeared to this nun during the course of her life. She left a diary of the events detailing what Jesus and Mary told her. One of the things Jesus related to her was that the devotion which spread worldwide to the Divine Mercy was that this devotion would be mankinds last hope before His second coming, this was in the 1930's.
I'd say that many catholics here would also be able to speak of the appearance of Our Lady at Akita, Japan, where Our Ladys statue cried tears, and tears of blood and told about the coming chastisment because of mans sinfulness, this was in the 1970's.
I'm sure most non-catholics will think all of this fairy tales and start passing out the reynolds wrap for tinfoil wear but I for one believe it.
I believe Mother Teresa was a living saint, a prophet, like the prophets of the Old Testament, the ones the Jews didnt want to listen to.
Ah, there's the rub...does no one here comprehend the long term ramifications of this appointment??? Ridge was not made VP in 2000 because the Republican party was not yet ready for a pro-abort candidate. Maybe by 2004 the Republican voters WILL be ready, especially if Cheney's heart gives out and Ridge becomes Bush's VP sooner.Oh please, not this again.
I got so sick of this line of trying to undercut Bush by claiming he was going to go with a pro-abortion VP candidate during the year leading up to the election that I get nauseous at the idea of having to deal with this prattle again.
Bush considers himself pro-life, he chose a pro-life VP this time, and if he has to choose another, we have no reason to doubt he would choose another pro-lifer.
Despite this action the NRA supported his bid for governor because he was the LESSER OF TWO EVILS and was greeted by a massive revolt among its membership in PA.. .
