WFLA Responds re. Patriotic Displays
WFLA | 9/21/01 | Eric S. Land

Posted on 09/21/2001 10:51:38 AM PDT by Catie

We apologize for any misunderstanding. It has long been policy at WFLA-TV to prohibit on-air personnel from wearing or displaying insignia of any kind.

This to avoid any public perception that Channel 8 has any motivation other than to broadcast truthful, fair and accurate information no matter the story or issue. The Station has never had a policy disallowing on-air personnel, if they so chose, to wear an American flag pin. Please excuse us if our policy in some way offended you. NewsChannel 8 remains "On Your Side" and will continue to air newscasts with that goal in mind.

NEWSFLASH!!!

I think the tide in the 'culture war' just turned! LOL!!

They're smoked out, and they're on the run!

There's going to be a commie demo on Sunday in Vancouver; I have a hunch there'll be counter-demonstrators.(grin)

I'll try to save my gloating for much later.;^)

If you live in America and are offended by displaying the American flag anywhere, perhaps you should move to another country. Oh yeah, take your TV station with you!

Sheesh...someday, some people are going to cut my state off at the state borders and send us drifting out to sea....this is one of the news stations for my area. As a matter of fact, they were at my childrens' school today, taping their RESCUE EFFORT DRIVE.....little did I know...I must say...I'm quite disgusted with these pigheaded excuses as to why they can't wear AMERICAN SYMBOLS......ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Did you hear the mayor of Berkley said he did not want the fire dept. to display the USA flag because it might offend someone!!! God Bless America! Oops, maybe that might offend someone! The day burning the flag became protected under "Freedom of Speech", was the last day of our true valued FREEDOM!

I'll defend anyone who wants to burn the flag, but I might not think much of him. People have that right per the Supreme Court. It's a "freedom of speech" issue. However, I can't see how anybody could be offended by the American flag, especially someone who was born in this country -- and also, people who willingly came to this country to make a decent life for themselves and their families. In both instances, people should know better. It's not a "perfect" country. It's not an utopia. It never will be. It's made up of imperfect people who for the most part, want to do their best. When school kids say the Pledge of Allegiance, especially the part "Liberty and Justice for all," that doesn't mean we have liberty and justice for all in this country, because we don't, but it's something to strive for, it's something bigger than the imperfect people, most of whom are doing their best, who make up our government. When you say the Pledge of Allegiance it's more of an affirmation of hope than reality.

Oh, yes, we do....we have several. Fox 13, BayNews9, and the other regular CBS and ABC stations. But...they don't pay much attention to us. Only Fox 13, BayNews9 and WFLA do, because they have local branches here in my county.

Don't worry, I bought some flags and ribbons after I read this thread yesterday, and made sure I dropped them off at the local WFLA station here...*grins*. WFLA also has a radio station, who it seems, definitely disagrees with the TV-station, and I called into their show yesterday afternoon to tell them what a scum-bag management group they have. Most people didn't even know about; afterwards, the phones were lighting up with calls regarding this issue. Hopefully, now that the word is spread, the scumbag management will have to turn tail and run.

Don't tick off DJ, you never know what will happen.....

:-) Deej
