Great speech. Drew a line ... we'll see how China reacts, along with other potential beligerents.

Am worried about the "Homeland Security" position and the "all measures" to be given to law enforcement.

There are certain things that can nad should be done that do not violate civil liberties and rights (ie. Sheriff's departments coordinating wacthes over local water supplies, sub-stations, etc. with comm to State National Guard and on up the line).

Me too. I liked the foreign policy aspects of his speech, but he was weak on the domestic side.

I would have liked to see him talk more about individual freedom: fewer regulations, lower taxes, fewer laws, etc.... It would have been an excellent opportunity to rekindle the flame of liberty in this country.

Tom Ridge is not a control freak and will do an excellent job. He's smart enough to realize Homeland security only has to include the borders, airports and harbors. The identification of terrorists within the borders will be dealt with by the FBI.

Plus, Ridge is quite pro-gun, too. And frankly, I'd be willing to bet that he'll cook up the same sort of deal with the NRA that the War Department did in World War II. A lot of folks were buying guns since September 11, and it might not be a bad idea to get them training.

One other loser besides the bin Laden mafia (spelling probably messed up) is going to be HCI.

It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated.
This is the point which gets me a little nervous. One problem, is where do we draw the line between a group of rebels and a group of terrorists? Also, what constitutes the global reach?
Overall, a very good speech. My points are minor.

Agreed ... but all in all it was a very good speech. I just want to see how far they go with the position.

If they train a "home guard", ie. local militia's under local (Sheriff) control to combat this, that will be good.

The 2nd most precious aspect of this speech was the reaction of Sen. Clinton!
She was absolutely choking on the whole situation.

In case you missed it...There is no longer any tolerance of attacking your leaders on FR. I guess that means you cannot critisize what they plan to do. Even Klaymath would be taboo now because in the minds of the majority this will divide the county. This is the way I see current events on FR. I agree with you about this new position in government. I thought we on FR were for eliminating a bunch of these. Why does it take a new cabnet position to do this. What about the FBI and the CIA? Who will pay for this ? What unconstituional powers will they be given ? And the list goes on. But you can't ask that on the new FR police state. This is disrespect for our leaders and JR has forbid it.
