I don't think Ridge will support an "ARM EVERY AMERICAN PLAN" (i was hoping we'd get a guy in that position to hand out weapons to us law abiding citizens for homeland security)
I pulled this off of GOA from circa 1996 .
....In May of 1994, then Rep. Tom Ridge teamed up with President Bill Clinton, Sarah Brady (HCI) and Rep. Charles Schumer (D-NY) to pass the semi-auto gun and magazine ban. By casting his vote for the gun ban in a narrow 216 to 214 loss for America's gun owners, Ridge's one vote can arguably be blamed for its passage and subsequent inclusion in the Clinton crime bill of 1994. In August of 1994, after GOA led a coalition of grassroots activists which nearly defeated the Clinton crime bill, Ridge continued his opposition to America's gun owners. He voted for the rule to bring the crime bill and its gun ban to the floor for a vote. (Ridge was one of only 42 Republicans to do so.) He then voted for final passage of the crime bill -- one of only 46 Republicans to do so. In the Spring of 1995, Sarah Brady teamed up with newly elected Gov. Tom Ridge to push one of Pennsylvania's most restrictive state gun control laws in a long time -- Act 17. As Pennsylvania's Governor, Ridge presided over the passage of Act 17, and then signed it into law. GOA opposed this bill from its inception and teamed up with several pro-gun state organizations to lead the national charge against the bill. Act 17 registered and taxed long gun buyers and placed other restrictions on Pennsylvanians' gun rights. ...

Thank you for the info. The rah-rahs will ignore it, of course but others will notice.

THe libertarian have been just as traitorous as the liberals in the aftermath. They keep doing politics against the "empire" (notwithstanding the muslim empire that is at our throats of course), while we need offense abroad and civil defense at home to protect innocent lives. But no, libertarians could care less about innocent lives, they just love their cult politics too much.
It's time America be vaporised away utopic open society liberals and libertarians.

We need bureaucrat, I guess.
When Japan bombed us in 1941 we responded with war, not a new bureaucrat.

We need another bureaucrat to spend billions of our tax dollars and complete the federalizing of our police departments, I guess.

I like the fact that this guy was a seagent in Vietnam and then came back and went to college. He's seen both the blue-collar and the white collar. This is typical of the Great Generation born in the early 20th century, but untypical of Baby Boomers. This is great!

"First thing he needs to do is round up all the ankle biting libertarians. Then he can focus on the enemies from without."
A comunist who would love to see everything federalized, I assume? If the FBI, our police, the people themselves, and the military are not "homeland defense", then just what the Hell is? I gues ANYTHING Dubya says will be good to you? You really are a "my party over our country" kinda person, aren't you? If you don't like libertarians, then leave, 'cause we ain't going anywhere!

First thing he needs to do is round up all the ankle biting libertarians. What an intellectually deficient thing to say. However, I am not one bit surprised.

What's the deal, guys? Do we have a gun-grabber here or what?

Homeland defense?
Seems like NY Mayor Giulliani would be more motivated. _ Tom

For what purpose one has to wonder and what effectiveness? The logical first step is to ban immigration from the Middle East and deport the lot currently in the U.S. The enemy is here. They will not rest as they have shown by readily dying for a mad cult of intolerance. Nuke their countries and change their lifestyles permanently. Unfortunately, Political Correctness seems to winning over as no politician is willing to point out the truth and take action. And Americans live in fear with such ridiculous nonsenses like plastic knives, etc. Pathetic.

An oversite role is good, but oversite on the part of the public is even better, especially when the government listens instead of covering stuff up. I think the point about turf wars is a valid one. I think they're inevitable.

I am a proud resident of erie pa. I know Gov. Ridge and have spoken with him many times. I see this as a double edged blade. In one way, erie will have good protection with his family living here,on the other side it makes us a more visable target for the terrorest of the world.

Hillary is watching Prez with a puss on her face. She is seeing her chances for a presidency go down the drain. Hah! She's thinking... 'thank God for the 22nd Amendment, or else, I'll never get a chance...'
To: dr_who
...And if Ridge is going to be the Gun Grabber-General, I can only hope that the turf wars will be intense enough to gum up the works entirely, the best possible outcome for the worst situation.
