I just heard Donald Rumsfeld on the radio answering reporters' questions, and one reporter asked if the operation in the middle east would really be named "Infinite Justice."
When Rumsfeld replied that he had 'heard' the name, but that it might not be the actual name of the action, the reporter replied that he had spoken to Muslim clerics, and that "infinite justice" was offensive because "only Allah can provide infinite justice."
To which Rumsfeld replied that we would not name it anything that might be offensive!
Thoughts?
I really didn't need my own resolve strengthened after last Tuesday, but each new day brings something that increases it.
Ed
I haven't done much laughing since last Tuesday, thanks for providing a good one!
Yipes, how very un-PC of me.
Drop a few thousand piglets from the bay of a cargo transport plane. Let them scare the infidels out of their caves.
The USA would certainly not want to offend the Jihad; however, the LORD God uses man to bring justice so "Infinite Justice" for the LORD God by the USA would be more appropriate!
I am disgusted. I feel betrayed.
Hearing Rumsfeld dance around that news conference has literally made me sick to my stomach. Ladies and Gentlemen, we are officially screwed.
This is a historic moment in history, an opportunity for the Bush administration to strike at the heart of barbarism and terrorism in the world. An opportunity to assert that America is again the chief exporter of freedom and prosperity in the world. An opportunity to make the deaths of those people who died on 9/11 mean something..
But it looks like thats not going to happen. Instead we are getting another ineffectual "war on drugs". The wave of national pride and unity we are feeling will wane as each day passes without decisive action... or at least the beginning or a decisive action. And information will leak out, as it always does, telling us who did this, and when our government knew, and we will be left scratching our heads.
I sit here with the Dow down another 300 points today and the whole country waiting, watching, and hoping for some action to show that we are on top of this situation, that we are again safe to go about our lives. I look at pictures of the still smoking rubble in Manhattan, with the very blood of those people calling out for vengeance.
Instead we get Rumsfeld so careful not to offend even our enemies that he cannot even handle the use of the word "combat" in the context of this action.
It could be that this is all a smoke screen, trying to lull Iraq and Afghanistan into a false sense of security. If so, I will be the first to post here and apologize.
But for now, I wish Gore had won. He wouldn't be handling the situation any better, but at least we would have expected it.
Good luck with the speech tonight, Mr. President, it might be the most important of your presidency... and determine how many terms that presidency consists of. I pray its not too late to sieze this moment and make it all of ours.
