Interesting engineering problem. I guess they can't really leave the debris in there to hold back the walls, since about 12 tons of it is in the form of solid gold bars.

I'm not talking about the Federal Reserve's gold. I'm talking about
this.

(From another thread)
NEW YORK (AP) - Some 11.8 metric tons of gold worth an estimated $110 million and 30.2 million ounces of silver valued at $121 million are buried in the rubble below one of the collapsed buildings in the World Trade Center, The New York Times reported Saturday.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
Turn them into a tourist attraction, "The Underground Canals Of New York City". Our own version of Venice.

Thanks for the scream, BA. I'm practicing my Venetian Boat Song.

The collateral damage, such as this is just beginning to be apparent. This will impact the whole subway systems viability in that one area I imagine as the system isn't lowered to a great extent at the area in question I imagine.

Also forgotten in all of this is the fact that at least several skyscrapers surrounding the WTC area are uninhabitable. We're talking 50 story buildings here that are going to have to be demolished and cleared away. Does anybody have an exact number of buildings in the area that must be condemned?

Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the flag. Can it get worst?
