I think Pat has a little clearer view of the situation IMHO. It appears to me that we have allowed the enemy throught the gates, and they struck from our turf. We are not a first strike nation, yet, and if we don't take care of what allowed these fanatics to live among us until the time was right, we will continue to face what took place tuesday last. Immigration policy plays a major role in this disaster. I believe we will compound the disaster by engaging the supposed enemy on his ground with a military that is a shell of its gulf war self.
At the moment we are talking big, but the big stick is nowhere to be seen. I have to agree with Pat, that there is absolutely nothing these thirdworlders have that would draw us into the russian vietnam, and logistics was certainly on the side of the russians, but will surely not be on ours. Cheap oil seemed to be the reason for the gulf war, it won't be a good reason for the next one. Not when we have failed to develop our own available sources, and continue with the open door imigration policy. JMHO

Not when we have failed to develop our own available sources, and continue with the open door imigration policy. It's not just the issue of "cheap" oil -- it's oil, period. Two-thirds of the world's known reserves are in the Middle East. We most certainly have to develop as much of our own domestic resources as we can, but we cannot achieve energy "independence" now or in the forseeable future. Energy drives our economy and our economic strength is a pillar of our liberty.
Immigration is neither the cause of nor a solution to the problem of terrorism. Immigration is, on balance, both an economic and a political strength of this nation. As a free society, we will always be vulnerable to terrorist acts -- the solution is development of intelligence resources, continued dillgence, and rapid (and ruthless) interdiction of terrorist acts.
Pat's "solution" is to wall up the USA, cast away our international financial interests, and for all I know, assume the fetal position and whimper. To hell with that solution -- and him.

I thought this country was built with immigration. I thought one of the things that makes this country the greatest was we are a "melting pot" of people... Closing the boarders is not the answer as that dumba** Pat thinks. Perhaps spending alittle more money where it is needed and less spending on stupid sh*t may allow us to identify the problem people.
