Read my post on how much the US actually "pushed"...others call it bribed the Yeltsin officials. Now as for Putin's rule...economic growth has been quite rapid...even the birth rates are up 100,000 this quarter....so much for that doom and gloom.

Here, do a little homework before embarass yourself:

Marxist Dreams and Soviet Realities
Autopsying the Communist cadaver
THE BLACK BOOK OF COMMUNISM
World War II in Ukraine:Katyn and Vinnytsia
The Lies of Katyn
RUSSIAN ATROCITIES IN CHECHNYA

Nothing in in America's entire history comes close to the last 85 years of Russian history. I would love to see Russia put this behind her and stand with us as allies, but it doesn't look hopeful right now.

"Russia's top security envoy warned the United States on Tuesday against breaking international law in its planned attack on suspected terrorist bases in Afghanistan."

It has always been said that Satan can still quote scripture.
Well, I guess THAT'S finally been proven.

Nothing in the US history? How about the Indians? How about the Fire bombing of every German and Japanese city? Recruiting of Nazies for US perposes (and I'm not talking about just the scientists) after WW2. How about the Tuskigi experiments? The land grab and surpression of the Hawaiins? The Philliopinoes after the Spanish American war? The napalming and carpet bombing of civilians in Vietnam? The support for such friendly regimes as the Kheman Rouge and the Pakistanies (who slaughtered 10 million Bangladashies who were fighting for independence.) The support of the Turks in exterminating 100,000 Cypriat greeks, 400,000 local Turkies Orthodox (who have mysteriously disappeared) and the slaughter of 50,000 Kurds? The support of the Guatemalan regime that has killed 200,000 of its own people? The support of Batista and his death squads? The KLA and the bombing of the Serbs? The arming of the Chechins? The arming of the Indonesians...who were carrying out a murderous insurgency against Malaysia? Please, the US record is quite quite bloody in its own right. Or will you call all this communist propaganda...the catch all of those who don't want to face their own history while criticizing others.

There are many posters here on FR who would like to see Russia as our friend. If there is any great power involved in this, I suspect it is China.

Screw Russia. This backwards country has no right to preach to others about breaking laws. What a joke they are.

By the way people, for your information several months ago Russia wanted to do small, limited air campaign against Taliban but the West said no.

Then get the hell out of America and don't come back. I do not care what you say "WE (the people of the United States of America) did not deserve this. No one has ever said America is perfect. What is true is America is the best country in the world.

1. Russia is fighting a CIA sponsored insurgency in Chechnya,

Could you provide a source for this?

many of which get refuge in Georgia and Turkey...both on the US payroll....makes one so anctious to have NATO on your southern border.

Who is on the payroll? Chechens in Georgia and Turkey or Georgia and Turkey themselves?

2. Russia has watched NATO sponsor Islamic insurgencies in Bosnia, Kosovo and Makedonia.

The US has watched Russia sponsor Islamic insurgencies in Israel by sponsoring the terrorists states of Iran, Syria, and Lebanon.

Russia has also seen how the US responded to the Turkish invasion of Cypruss and the slaughter of 100,000 greeks.

You forgot to mention the Greek invasion of Turkey after WWI, how many thousand Turks were slaughtered in that Greek misadventure?

3. NATO has lied repeatedly to Russia about enlargement and its benevalence...

Do you have a source where member nations of NATO said they were not going to enlarge the alliance?

why let the US and NATO into the very Causcus that NATO oil companies have been trying desperately to exploit?

Why not, Russia exploited it for 200 years and mismanaged it badly.

And what does Russia get for this? NATO expansion to its borders? Constant American mass media sterotyping and condemnation? Becoming the front line of the war on Islam while getting backstabbed by the West (something that the West has been quite good at since the days of the Mongol invasions)?

You folks lost the Cold War, get over it. Your empire is shattered and a whole host of problems which were created during that war are comming back to haunt both nations.

How much did the US protest when the Islamics, sponsored by the Pakies and the US, blew up Russian apartment buildings? Kidnapped Russian children and cut off their fingers? Butchered Russian POWs?

Are you talking about before, during, or after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan where Russian troops raped, pilaged, and murdered innocent people. I would assume you meant after and during the Soviet invasion. The US actions were a lot like the actions of the Soviet Union during Vietnam, no?

Please, where was the general American indignation at that?

I'm sure there were some liberals at Berkely crying their eyes out but not here.

As for all the "monies" the US has given, it amounts to $5 billion, half of what the Germans gave...in exchange for Yeltsin allowing Western corporations to rape Russia and bomb Serbia...

Are you talking about the aid money Russia ripped off from the West? Your vastly underestimating that. The figure is around $100 billion since 1991 while we here at Free Republic watched Russia build more Topol-M's, enlarge the Magic Mountain and carry on the war in Chechnya. Russia squandered the billions and you have the nerve to blame those who gave it to your country.

ever wonder why for the last 3 years of Putin's rule Russia has experienced an average growth rate of 6%?

No, the price of oil raised from $11 a barrel to over $30 a barrel.

As for the IMF 30% interest loans...Russia has already paid back half of the $18 billion.

A source for the %30 interest loan is needed and are you including in the $18 billion figure money owed from Soviet era debt? Russia is quick to ask for debt forgiveness because they are not the SU anymore but when the US says it made an ABM pact with the SU so it isn't in effect Russia balks again and again.

So, next time you feel so self righteous, ask yourself this: what does the INDEPENDENT country of Russia get for its sacrifices and what is the US willing to give up?

Russia hasn't sacrificed anything except for the Western aid money it misuses. The US gave Russia a lot. It fought your tyrannical government for fifty years and gave Russian's a real chance at democracy and then gave her an economic crutch to stand up with when her economy went into the toilet.

Chechnya is in the Russian Federation.

So what? They are still hypocrites. They had no regard for killing non combatants, let them not give speeches or put conditions on us. As to international law, it is not worth the ink it is written in. We need to do what we have to.
