Not everyone is currently able to donate blood, or money, but they want to help. I know I have a couple of ways to help that I'm working on, so I'm sure there are others out there who have their own ideas.
Here are the ideas I'm working on, and can use help with. Please feel free to post your own ideas, or other ways to help here.
Poems for America: I'm currently compiling a book of poems that were written about the events of 9-11-01. Everyone is invited to submit a poem. Anyone who submits a poem will keep all rights to it, and the proceeds of the book will go to benefit the relief agencies. If this interests you, please go to

Blankets for Liberty: I'm also accepting donations of handmade, or hand altered, blankets and stuffed animals to go to the victims and their families. You can include your name or a small message with the donation. If you would like to help with this, please go to

Call your congress-critter and insist they issue Letters of Marque and Reprisal. That covers the free-market aspect.

I was really bummed too about not being able to join, although I'm thrilled I'm pregnant. I stay-at-home with my daughter, so joining the Reserves would allow me to serve my country, and and still be a stay-at-home mom to my daughter.
Great idea. Except that you serve at the needs of the government. If you are a stay-at-home mom, and thinking about enlisting in the Reserves, I would council you to stay at home. You serve there also. I salute your service.
The Reserves have a nasty way of yanking you away from hearth and home to serve in pest-holes around the world. Your babies are better served with Mom at home. God bless you, and God bless your children.
