'Don't ask me to kill ... or to die'
I am a 19-year-old college student. I joined the Oregon National Guard two months before I turned 18.
I write about the possibility of war. I am still in shock about everything that has happened. I want the people responsible to pay for their crimes.
And those are the only people who should pay.
If we go to war, it will be my generation that will have to go. America will ask us to give up our dreams and to die for our country. We will be asked to leave our loved ones, to leave our educations and to die alongside our brothers, sisters and friends.
Please don't ask us to do this. I am not afraid to defend my country, but I am afraid for my country. Enough people have died already. Please don't ask me to kill others or to die myself in the name of revenge.
LAURA VILLANI, Private first class, Pendleton

The Army is just "workfare" for unwed moms in too many cases.
They are worse than useless, they are anchors to drag around.

The cowardice of little girl is not worth the time and energy being given to it. Let her go, and let her live with her cowardice for the rest of her life

HI...
Looks like we agree on this too (see #117 above)...

women are perfectly qualified for a majority of combat positions Ground combat is tougher than the NFL, is that why we see so many women in the NFL these days?

We will be asked to leave our loved ones, to leave our educations and to die alongside our brothers, sisters and friends. Please don't ask us to do this. It's a good thing for this young woman that the boys of 1941 did not feel the same way. Japanese is a tough language to master.
I want the people responsible to pay for their crimes.
Mail them a traffic ticket, perhaps?
And they are the only ones who should pay.
And if they don't pay, we will send them another ticket for 'failure to appear.'

I have to wonder why she joined the National Guard. Nobody made her, did they? Wouldn't even a tiny thought cross her mind that there might be a possibility of being called to serve?

Pendleton is in eastern Oregon, deep in the Red Zone. There's a big rodeo out there every year.
It's about the last place I'd look for sentiments like this, but you just can never tell...

Evenin'. Love your #165. I've been waiting on your opinion.

Listen...not every woman who ever joined the military feels like this silly spinless twit.
When I joined the military, I did so with the knowledge that we could go to war and I might be in harms way. I signed up willingly and took my oath knowing the possible concequences of my actions. That is a hell of a lot more than some of the MEN on this board can say.

Could this simply be miss-info designed to influence our actions.

I suppose you ought to ask what is it about your character that causes you to be surrounded by stupid, simpering girls.

I think she needs to be frog-marched out of the National Guard immediately. That ding-a-ling has no business wearing our nation's uniform.

This is what you get when you have a PC army--thank you, Patsy Schroeder, for your treason in the name of sexual PC.
And a here's a news flash for you, little PFC Laura: If you join the National Guard in order to have them pay for your BS in Cultural Anthropology, and for all the cool money they give you, there is a chance they may ask you to actually earn the money they are paying you.

I am not afraid to defend my country, What, exactly, do some people think the military is anyway?
I hope this gal understands that the military has one role - to break the enemy's things and kill their people.
