I am a 19-year-old college student. I joined the Oregon National Guard two months before I turned 18.
I write about the possibility of war. I am still in shock about everything that has happened. I want the people responsible to pay for their crimes.
And those are the only people who should pay.
If we go to war, it will be my generation that will have to go. America will ask us to give up our dreams and to die for our country. We will be asked to leave our loved ones, to leave our educations and to die alongside our brothers, sisters and friends.
Please don't ask us to do this. I am not afraid to defend my country, but I am afraid for my country. Enough people have died already. Please don't ask me to kill others or to die myself in the name of revenge.

Yes, he was forced to publicly apologize but I think he made his opinion of cowards known. In fact, the kid may not have even been a coward, but suffering from shell shock.

Miss Larson, I ask you, if you do not give up your dreams to fight and die for your country, what dream is there left to persue? what loved ones would be left to cherish? is anything good which is not worth fighting for? and when looking in a miror, whould you honestly be able to say that you have pride in anything, least of all your self?
I too come from your generation, but you and I differ in this, I understand that my dreams and family are tied up in my country and would gladly die willingly to preserve that which I cherish.
Please think again about.
Secondly, you're female. In today's pretend "equal" Army, you'll never have to worry about being shot at because you aren't in combat arms. Seems the men still have to be the bullet catchers, even though you draw the same pay. But then, you're such a weenie anyway, you'd probably just slow the fighters down. After all, you only joined so Uncle Sugar would pay for your school and get you a weekend a month off with pay, eh?
Now, the bill comes due and you get all blubbery? You're a disgrace to a proud uniform, and fortunately for America, a rare element even in a military that's been emasculated by feel-gooders and Bill Clinton.
I give it one week. Boxer will have the Capitol steps flowing with the tears of a thousand pms-laden sufferers, begging, pleading, nay, DEMANDING, they be released from their oaths. Either that, or there is going to be an immediate rise in the pregnancy rate as of last Tuesday.
